Taira always felt and expressed to me remorse for her role in that situation. I wish her the best and brightest future as I always have. She deserves a break, I saw many times in her childhood where she got none, she should catch one this time. She the deserves Equity in sentencing that she was denied by small town town politics interfering with fairness.
My own husband is facing two 25-to-life’s due to misrepresentation, lack of empathy with his representation, and an insanely significant charge for simply using the gun in his crime (his second 25-L charge). Justice reform is needed.
My best friend was offered 6 to 8 years in a plea bargain but, because he was never caught with any dope or selling any dope, he went to trial and lost. He then responded to Canada before sentencing. When they extradited him back, they gave him life. He has been down 16 years. It's really sad because, he is one of the best people I have ever met. He's definitely the most thoughtful and unselfish person I know.
Inmates that were convicted at 18 should be resentenced after years of incarceration IF they have shown themselves as matured into a rule and law abiding person. Give them a second look, they were young and they deserve a chance to prove themselves and have a better life.
