As someone who deeply loves and believes in the power of our community. The news about the potential closure of Arlie Boggs Elementary School in Eolia, KY has left me heartbroken, and I feel compelled to speak up for what this school means to all of us.
Arlie Boggs isn’t just a school—it’s the heartbeat of our community. It’s where children take their first steps toward discovering who they are and what they can achieve. It’s where teachers pour their hearts into shaping young minds, giving every child the tools they need to dream big and succeed. It’s where families come together, united by the shared hope of building a brighter future for our kids.
If Arlie Boggs closes, it won’t just be the loss of a building or a name—it will be the loss of a lifeline for so many families. For parents, having a local school means knowing their children are safe, cared for, and close to home. For students, it means learning in an environment that feels like family, surrounded by people who know them, love them, and believe in them. Taking that away would be devastating—not just for the children, but for the entire community.
This school is more than bricks and mortar; it’s a place where memories are made, friendships are forged, and futures are built. It’s where generations have grown up, learned, and gone on to make a difference in the world. Closing it would tear at the very fabric of our community, leaving a void that no other institution could fill.
Beyond the emotional toll, shutting down Arlie Boggs would have practical consequences that cannot be ignored. Families would face longer commutes, higher transportation costs, and less time spent together. Teachers and staff—many of whom are pillars of our community—could lose their jobs. Local businesses that rely on the school’s presence would suffer. And most importantly, our children would lose the sense of stability and belonging that comes from attending a school rooted in their own community.
Please, I urge you to reconsider. Arlie Boggs Elementary is not just a school—it’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and unity for Eolia. Its closure would be a loss too great to bear, and its impact would ripple through generations. Let’s work together to find solutions that preserve this vital institution and ensure that our children continue to thrive right here, in the place they call home.
I went to this school from Kindergarten through eighth grade. I have so many great memories and friends thanks to this school. I sent my own child there. Please keep this school open for all the students that call this school home.
The elementary school kids in that area don’t need to cross Pine Mountain 4,280 times to graduate from school. Keep it open for the kids safety and well being. From kindergarten to 12th grade is a long time. The officials need to put every effort in action to keep the kids from crossing that dangerous mountain road. If a tunnel had been built as it should have been it would be a different situation.
Closing Arlie Boggs would be a real shame to the community. Families need this “little school that does big things” to stay open. I attended from 1st grade-7th, both my children have attended Arlie Boggs. Arlie Boggs is by far one of the best schools around!
Hi , I’m Henrietta McFarland and my grand daughter laykin parsons attends arlie Boggs elementary, this could be detrimental if she should have to change schools . She loves her school and the staff at Arlie Boggs . Also her brother Ian will be attending kindergarten at Arlie Boggs this coming school year , . Laykin is an exceptional student at Arlie Boggs , and we believe she eccells because of the extraordinary caring staff . If she has any problems at all her teachers will contact her parents with no waste of time , so the problem can be resolved! We feel at ease knowing thy laykin is taken the best care of , as that’s how it is for all children, no child is left behind or slips through the cracks . And also the lunches are delicious, Laykin loves eating in the lunch room . So please we are begging please keep Arlie Boogs open , you will be only hurting the children on eolia , upper Cumberland and Cumberland river and partridge Ky . Children are our best interest.please think of who will be hurting the most fr the closing the school, thank you !
This is a small school in a poor community. The kids here have always been forgotten about by the rest of the county. But it’s such a wonderful place for the kids. It’s more like a home than a school. These kids deserve to get to go to this forgotten little school where they are so happy. It may not matter to anyone else but it does to us. My little boys is goes to this school and he absolutely loves it.
This little school has help my kids so much. It may be small but it is the best. I have school just a few miles down from me and I chose to send kids to Arlie Boggs Elementary for a reason. The teacher are great the environment is great. The kids get the help they need. We need this school. My entire family went to Arlie Boggs. I have a child going in to kindergarten next year and I want him to be at Arlie Boggs. This school is not just an ordinary school. It’s a family.
As an 8th grader at Arlie Boggs, it makes me devastated to hear this. Maybe if the school board would simply give us a little more attention, it wouldn't have to shut down. The school is practically falling apart, and barely anyone is doing anything about it. I am graduating this year in May, however I still want future generations of 8th graders to have that privilege! Please save Arlie Boggs!
My children went to this school, hopefully my granddaughter will also, we have one granddaughter that goes there now and a lot of our family has children there. this school is one of the best with great caring people! We all know each other as a big family and they care for each child as they are their own . We need this school open for our future generations. We don’t want our children riding a bus across Pine Mountain, going so far from home it will be too difficult on lots of parents and hard on the children also.
