Last night, the majority of the Letcher County Board of Education voted to close our school, disregarding the best interests of our children in Eolia. This decision places our students at unnecessary risk and reflects a clear prioritization of other interests over their education and well-being.

For years, the Board has neglected our school, consistently attempting to consolidate it. Now, seizing the opportunity, they have acted swiftly to close it, undermining the needs of our community. The Letcher County Board of Education has failed the people of Eolia and the broader county. Poor decision-making has led to declining enrollment, as families leave due to the Board’s focus on athletic achievements and school consolidation rather than quality education.

We remain committed to fighting for our school and exploring all possible avenues to preserve the legacy of Arlie Boggs Elementary. We will continue to advocate for improvements in our rural community, which has been overlooked by both the state and those across the mountain.
