Property taxes are high enough for services offered and to see them skyrocket arbitrarily every year is ridiculous. In our neighborhood the city does not maintain the streets. In our neighborhood the police does not patrol hardly ever. Our neighborhood floods every time a hard rain occurs. I see where WISD is offering “migrant “ services. Why? I can’t afford to keep paying more to uncaring government officials.

I am a 75 year old retired woman on a FIXED income, every year EVERYTHING keeps getting more & more expensive and i keep getting the SAME FIXED income, something has to give or i will make it out alive! Lol. Seriously though. Things have to change or people are really going to STOP even carrying or complying if they do not ease up on all of this demanding and threatening. People are waking up at an alarming rate!

Being a single person household and having this exorbitant amount being charged to your budget. I can guarantee you I don’t generate the volume of trash as a two or more person household so it’s extremely unreasonable! I am basically being forced to pay the same rate as a household of multiple persons but costing the city far less! Most everything I use can be recycled or composted. The city needs to find other resources (incinerator??) to dispose of the trash and stop putting all of the burden on homeowners when we are the ones who generate the least amount of garbage. Is the city protecting their business cronies or just gouging the individual homeowner??

between Property taxes and HO Insurance Florida is fast becoming cost prohibitive for the average person. Add in the expense of living with and maintaining septic system. Start spending money to take care of existing problems instead of all these shiny new “feel” pet good projects. keep it up and and i’m out!

I am a retiree living under lower budget. I am afraid I am going to have to sell and move away from the place I grew up. My parents lived and died in Compton and I would like to die here too. This is my home which I am still paying with many sacrifices. Please keep good abiding citizens in Compton. Get rid of this nonsense violence and super high prices. Why is Compton so poor when is the city with the highest taxes. We pay so much and we do not even have a place to park on our residential streets.

Please please please! The property taxes in Cook County in the southern suburbs is RIDICULOUSLY HIGH! Many people are leaving Illinois to escape from the HIGH REAL ESTATE TAXES! I love Illinois and I want to stay here, but I am a senior citizen living off of my social security check and every year the taxes are raised. I have no savings and soon I will have to move out of Illinois because I cannot afford my HIGH PROPERTY TAXES. Also, my 2 children attended private Catholic schools, so all the money I paid in real estate taxes for my school system never went toward the education of my children! Something must be done … PLEASE!

This is my first home, and it took me working 3 jobs to get out of debt, rebuild my credit and save enough money to be able to afford our home & move my kids out of the southside of Chicago. After two years into homeownership, last December, my mortgage increased $800/month with an estimated escrow shortage of $5,200, right before Christmas with a months notice; hardly any time to try and save or adjust. This increase has been extremely hard, fully absorbing any opportunity to save, let alone spend much of anything outside of bills and groceries. When I appealed the 94% increase compared to the average 45% increase of neighbor comps, the response was simple & a slap in the face: it was based on the sale of the home (in 2021). Yet, the house directly across the street from me with the same exact layout, square footage, lot size, building qualities, and fully updated top to bottom that sold $70k higher than my home, had far less of a tax increase and still remained substantially lower than my home. It's clearly evident the Kraegi office has no clue what they're doing, as further witnessed by the absurd valuations of hotels downtown, as high as 300%. I'm not business owner, but I am a working mother of two young boys, working in hospitality. There is nothing fair or accurate about these valuations, especially here in the south suburbs. Gov. Pritzker, you've done an amazing job with this state, but your constituents need your help so we can continue to live in our homes & feel safe. This state will not continue to grow in these conditions. Please help everyone here, we need you to put an end to the erroneous "work" the assessment office is claiming to do.

I’m on SSD and now my mortgage is 2/3 of my monthly income I’m trying to figure out how to keep my home.

I just moved here in May 2023, with the peace of mind that I had an affordable place to live in a peaceful community, but within a year and a half of buying a home here, my mortgage payments increased an additional $400 more per month. I had the expectation that I had an affordable place to live, and that is what I agreed to. This extreme increase is simply too much. My living situation is now in jeopardy despite making all the right decisions, being careful and considerate with my options. Please find a better way to fund our schools.

In six years my property taxes have nearly doubled. I am a single-income household. I am a nurse I work a full-time job, a part-time job and do home health on the side. I am doing everything I know how to do. I have to live within my budget but the government doesn't. I don't get to overspend and then ask my boss for more money. When you set a budget, stick to it, work within it. If you don't have the money then you cannot offer the benefit. Do you want this county to be Detroit? We are on the way! Meanwhile, property owners are paying, and paying, and paying! When does it end? My $7,000 ++ property taxes for my little home are not reasonable and the the constant escalation of money requests lacks basic fairness.
