This is such a sad demonstration on failure of our system, I have known this family for many years, grandmother,father and 2 young boys , super intelligent, Wonderful children, I knew of some of the emotional trauma thru grandmother. When the unthinkable happened we were shocked, as a nurse I realize psychological and emotional problems can be difficult to fully understand, what I can't understand is how a young man can be condemned to prison when it is obvious he had emotional problems. As well he committed this when only 16 how then is he being treated as an adult. Please consider this young man's emotional and psychological state in weighing your final decisions.

Mental health is so often stigmatized, but in reality it is just can important as physical health. If the goal of the criminal justice system is really rehabilitation and not just punishment then in this situation the mental health of the defendant but be taken into account and he must get the help he needs. Those with mental disorders suffer greatly in prisons.

I naively assumed that prisoners were receiving humane treatment and that the one of the goals was for inmates to become better people and, by extension, to make our world a better place. Now I'm wondering if you're smirking and rolling your eyes as you read this. It is especially troubling that this petition was started eight months ago, and just this week I heard first hand verification of conditions that I would have thought more closely resembled a POW camp. This seems to be not a temporary glitch, but an entrenched, longstanding pattern of behavior. Why are you doing things to try to make the inmates worse? I rebuke the principalities and powers who are controlling Allred Unit and I pray that the people who have the very difficult job of working there will have the wisdom and courage to do what is right and good.
