Consider the benefits:
- The ability to communicate in emergency situations. After all, it's not like modern houses have home phones, and if something happens at school then phones could be very useful in that situation (Pediatric Experts 1).
- Opportunities for social contact with peers. What if a kid is having a bad day, and they want to text their buddy during a traveling period? There's no harm in that (Pediatric Experts 1).
- Ability to gain immediate knowledge for personal or academic use. Say, if your school computer died, you could look something up using your phone. Or, another example could be a calculator. Don't have one? Use your phone. Easy. (Pediatric Experts 1).
- Music. A lot of kids find comfort in listening to music, and I think that's a central use for phones at school. I'm not implying that listening to music DURING class without permission is what kids should be doing, but during traveling periods, free time, or lunch they should be able to. Schools should not ban that altogether.
CONSIDER THESE, GOVERNOR MURPHY!!
Phones should not be banned. Students use it as a way of communicating with friends and parents. Communicating with your parents is very important to do when something comes up. Our phones allow us to do that without having to go up to a teacher and ask to speak with a parent. It also gives better privacy to what the student wants to talk about
I don’t understand the “bell to bell” phone policy. Some kids don’t have friends at lunch and just sit there and stare at their food? Like I’m sorry? Just because a student doesn’t want to learn and just sit on their phone doesn’t mean every student does. A lot of kids want to learn and it doesn’t matter if they have their phone or not. Last year we had no phone policy and I had straight A’s the entire year. That shows that just because I have my phone doesn’t mean I don’t pay attention. This year I’ve started to have a downfall. I don’t feel comfy with my phone in the “catty holder” I would rather have it on me. I have a severe medical condition and need my phone on me at all times and you guys are taking that away from us. Some kids don’t even have a phone and they get punished for it.this generation is going downhill because of you. You’re ruining it. Just because you guys didn’t grow up with phones doesn’t mean you should take them away from us. Be greatful with what you’ve got. Instead maybe take a chance on these kids and see how we like it. I like listening to music while I work because I focus better, but OH yeah my rights are taken away from that too! This is absolutely ridiculous to see how much you adult treat kids. Just because you guys had a childhood of no phones doesn’t mean kids have to aswell. As of my self, I have been given a phone for emergency purposes and to use in my free time. That’s what all kids are given. You guys blame everything on the phones and don’t think about kids mental health. You just care about how we dress and if our phones are out. I’m sorry but what happened to “how are you?” Or “ your doing amazing” but instead we just get “PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY” or “YOUR A BAD STUDENT” like I’m sorry but as a highschool student. absolutely NO kid should have to go through this. If this rule doesn’t change. I swear I hope you get fired from this position. It is the dumbest choice to think phones distract us. Some kids use their phones as an escape from reality from you adult constantly picking problems and causing scenes. It’s EMBARASSING how I’ve seen more adult become childish thst an actual child. Get your acts together and be a good person. Maybe treat a kid how you want to be treated instead of how you were treated. Like I’m sorry you grew up with something else, but you don’t have to take it away from us. Seriously be so honest it’s sad. It’s even worse knowing that some kids get bullied and they go sit and cry in the bathroom because they aren’t able to contact someone other than complete strangers that your supposed to automatically trust. I only trusted ONE teacher in my entire school life. It took me until SOPHOMORE YEAR to trust a adult. I’ve had to go phoneless all of this year sofar and I’ve had atleast 7 breakdowns just in December alone and couldn’t call my mom to have her help me calm down. It’s unfair how horribly we get treated. I hope your life is happy for treating us so badly. See how many kids die to suicide now ? It’s all blamed on our gosh damn phones when they do NOTHING. NOTHINGGG! What the hell is wrong with you people trying to make this world bad. I don’t care how you grew up, but it’s not how we want to. I hope you get fired one day. This is EMBARASSING. My opinions matter. Take it from a kids view. A MINOR.
