The storytime and play space at the Richmond library was essential for my mental health and my daughter's development during her first year. It continues to be a great space to meet others in my community and find safe and healthy play space during hot summer and cold winter days. I was looking forward to continuing to take my daughter to this library, which is much larger and can accommodate many more families that smaller libraries nearby in Fishtown and Kensington.
Natalie supported: Save Richmond Library from closure!There are too few public spaces as-is. It would be an absolute crime for the city to let this gem of a building fall into disrepair and be sold off to the highest bidder. We don't need more unaffordable housing, we need a Damn Library!

It's breaking my heart to see what is happening here, not only for the other children and families in my community, but also for the employees who are struggling to fix this! Philadelphia needs its third places! Save the library!

We have always loved that we can walk to our library and enjoy all its resources, books, videos, family and kid activities and a quiet place to study. …. U have always told people “our library branch is the most beautiful library!” You walk in and it is full of green plants! It has light from lovely large windows. It has an expansive kid reading and play area, a really wonderful after school program…. The librarian is a beekeeper and she cultivates a pollinator garden and an observation hive, sharing the experience and knowledge with library patrons young and old.
Our library is attached to a beautiful park with huge old trees. It is a sanctuary in our lively, busy, dirty yet lovely city. I often come here to study or to help my kids study in the peaceful atmosphere.
The programming is outstanding! I have taken my kids to chamber orchestra concerts and magic and science shows. Nature exhibits. I have walked in to find a local jazz musician playing their piano and attended a live jazz concert.
This library is a huge part in bringing our community together and an invaluable resource to many individuals. It is a true gem. Please help us get our library back!!

My mother-- the child of Italian immigrants in the 1920s--spent hours in this library and developed a lifelong love of books --a love she instilled in each of her children. Miss Amy, Miss Meghan and the entire staff have continued that legacy of making Port Richmond Library a welcoming learning space for EVERYONE in our community through the variety of programs offered here. The loss of this library over the past few months has been devastating. When will The City make the maintenance of libraries like ours throughout Philadelphia a priority?? Good citizens begin with an informed, educated public. Children and adults build community in a diverse environment like ours. Libraries make that happen. Re-open the doors to our beloved Port Richmond Library so we can come back and be with our books and our friends.
Jean supported: Save Richmond Library from closure!The closure of the library is such a hit to our community—it’s an amazing place, with caring librarians who organize programs for all ages, make sure books are available in multiple languages for everyone in the neighborhood, and—of course—take care of the bees. It’s horrible seeing this beautiful building fall into disrepair, and it’s past time for the repairs to the library’s roof to be completed. I really believe the measure of a city isn’t in the big, splashy projects (like Sixers arena) but in how well these vital neighborhood resources are maintained and supported—so please, let’s prioritize repairing Richmond Library so it can reopen to the neighborhood.

If this city’s government is also keen on keeping families local, they will support the infrastructure that makes this possible. I cannot think of a better example of this than the Port Richmond Library. This library is the heart of our community, every age group has a reason for this place to stay open and working. Many people don’t have computers or printers at home. Many people use the library as means to stay warm during winter or cool during summer hot days. It’s a place for safety and a place for socializing. The children section is one of a kind! Not only does it have a splendid program for our toddlers to be introduced to reading and speech it has an area for the children to play and explore. The staff are like family. It is simply atrocious that our library has been neglected by the city. Our community is lost without it.
