This house is an integral piece of surviving historical artifacts from the early Bay Colony and needs to be preserved. I thought that the Mass Audubon was dedicated to preservation and not destruction of all important and scarce. I hope that they come to their senses and will at the very least allow someone to take over ownership in the name of preservation and unity.
There’s no replacing history lost. There is far too little importance placed on structures like this, and on open land, in today’s world. These resources are being destroyed every day. Surely Audubon can recognize a rare bird that deserves to be saved.
I believe in saving our historic homes for our future generations to see and experience with a visit in person or visually. Let’s protect our heritage before it’s gone. Thank you for considering an endangered treasure that could and should be saved.
And I spent many hours at the Audubon in South Natick were a Swan houses stands. With all the new construction in Natick, I think if we have a historical house that tells our history we should preserve it so that generations to come to come just how Natick evolved.
As a teacher I believe students need houses and artifacts like these as living reminders them of their community's past. To see a place built hundreds of years ago can bring history to life, make it real instead of something just in books, and help kids see themselves as part of something bigger than the present.
As a woodworker by trade, I can really appreciate the craftsmanship that went into these old homes. Something that has lasted over 300 years is so impressive, in this day of throw away items! This is so important to preserve!
