I wished the system worked. I am a special needs mom and aunt. It is always in the back of my mind what if my loved one has a bad encounter with law enforcement, will they be treated fairly? I am thinking of you today and hoping they implement the Corey Cochran act.

As a parent of a son with mental health issues I cannot express enough just how much this is needed in most of the states but especially NC and Georgia

I have family members that have Mental Health issues and some have been in the county jails or Prisons and they say it’s very bad in there and the staff members / guards don’t care whether or not you get your Medication and you go days if not weeks without getting your Meds. It’s very sad that these government officials would rather send these Mentally Unstable people to Prison instead of sending them to a place to get them help. It’s all comes down to MONEY the more they put in Jail or keep in Prison they get the FUNDING and we all know that somewhere down the line some of that Money is going into some of these higher up government officials pockets. “Under the Table or Not” The government needs to take that MONEY and BUILD A PLACE TO SEND MENTAL PATIENTS AND UPDATE ALL THE PRISONS. Don’t let inmates sit around or lay up in bed 23 hrs a day, you’re allowing them inmates to think too much on how they’re going to out fox the government system/guards. Classes & Jobs for all inmates.

Im so sorry about your son. I know first hand how America's prison system treats inmates. Yes, we committed crimes, some worse tgan others but let me tell u that no person deserves to b treated horribly. Most inmates r good people that just made one bad choice, mentally ill or an addict that received no help. I was incarcerated in a maximum security prison called Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women in Virginia. It was my first and only felony, drug possesion. I received a 5 year sentence which i served almost 4 years of it. I am a US Army veteran and a single Mom that worked evertday, but i was an addict and barely making paycheck to paycheck. So i ended up.in prison. Inside prison walls, society has no idea of how horribly we r treated especially the mentally ill. They r jus5 locked away mostly in solitar5 confindment and left to rot. Or they r put in general n general population and get bullied or hurt bu other inmates. Its a very hard thing to watch, which i did more than one once. There r mentally ill still locked away today that have been n the "hole" for years, few even decades. They r ignored, mistreated, abused and forgotten. We get nothing n prison but rotten food w bugs or out of date donated foods. We had to beg for toilet paper and still some guards woukd ignore the plea. There r few guards that do generally care about out well-being but most of them r horrid. I was medical care twice ito where twice i almost died in a hospital after being rushed there on death's door. I was released January 27, 2022 and i work, go school and attend VA for any and all medical/mental appts. My life is forever changed and i understand it was fault i was incarecerated but not my fault of what i had to endure whil incarecerared. Did i learn anything? I learned that America's justice system is corrupt and law enforcement r evil.

This should never happen in America. All prison employees should be wearing body cams. Mentally ill people should be in a facility that cares for them and not in the prison system.

To many people are being murdered while being incarcerated. These are human beings. Yes they’ve committed crimes most are drug related not supposed to be punishable by death. If everyone would stop and take a look at the murders going on almost daily in our prison system it has to stop! We need more mental health facilities treatment centers in Georgia. Almost all of the people that are killed in prison their families tried to get them help without any success. In my opinion from the warden down to the guards should be held liable and charged with murder. If you have a loved one in prison and they are being targeted call and report it keep a log of who you talked to the date/time and their response then if something horrendous happens you have proof they knew and did nothing. If the wardens aren’t able to keep their inmates in line they need to be replaced. I feel so bad for this momma along with the multitude of mommas that thought their sons and daughters would come home one day but will forever be gone.

This truly touched my heart! It’s a crying shame her son had to go through that and now her with his passing! I get people do wrong and have to be punished. On top of this he had mental health issues! I was in jail with a lady whom other females would get her meds and when she didn’t have it, she acted so crazy and people laughed and some of us cried because it was pitiful and the jailers done about it! Also, you have a guard saying he was eating off the floor! My heart goes out too you and your family! Prayers!

The Government pretends we have mental health under control. They fool the public by creating out of sight out of mind policies. They permit the Justice system to lock them up when it solves nothing and only furthers the crisis. Law enforcement gets a free pass when they treat this group improperly, violently, even deadly. We need to do more to make real change, to make policies that actually address the issue rather than hide it away.

Prisoners are human beings. Many if not most have mental challenges. Something must be done to stop the deaths of so many people in the prison system!
