As a community member and occasional volunteer, I have witnessed the detrimental impact of Jonathan's "leadership" at Rainbow since 2023 when he first joined the board and became interim ED. I have seen his power-hoarding, manipulation, and combativeness with staff, board members, and community members. I have witnessed his retaliatory removal of titles and hours from staff members when he was interim ED, and am appalled to see this behavior continue in his position as a board member against Cori and against his fellow board members, and anyone who questions his unilateral decision-making. His decision to remove Cori from their position and to call law enforcement on Rainbow's only Black staff member, who is also a community member and resident of Concord, was not only retaliatory, it was also racist, misogynistic, and dangerous. This decision also resulted in the abandonment of vulnerable clients in Rainbow's emergency housing program for 2SLGBTQIA+ Youth, which puts their lives in danger. He has made union proposals with clear anti-worker values. He acts with urgency, creating emergencies in situations that require pause and reflection. I have seen the impact on Rainbow's staff, creating a culture of fear and hopelessness that impacts the community they serve. This is not a person invested in healing for marginalized 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. He acts like a patriarch who "knows what's best" and will try to bury anyone who questions him.
This petition is critical at this time. Jonathan tried to bury my RCC Board application, and after 4 months on the board was able to convince others to remove me. In the 24-25 fiscal yr I raised $12,600+ despite only being on the board for 4 months. I attended weekly meetings and was the sole person responsible for recruiting vendors for Pride in the Plaza, which would've brought in an additional $3000+ if they all paid. The board prioritized removing me at the 5/22/25 meeting, the day before firing Cori. This left the vendors with no contact person, some of whom had yet to pay, and advertisements directed to my shut down email address. No one spoke to me about alleged concerns or notified me in advance that there would be a motion for my removal. At the meeting where I was voted off the board, Jonathan read a list of concerns, spoke over me when I attempted to respond, then called for a vote. Not everyone on the board was allowed to cast a vote, and when they reached majority, Jonathan informed me that the open meeting was invite only and I was not invited. It's worth noting that Jonathan was not President and had no reason to be facilitating the meeting at that time. That's just the kind of person he is. I was focusing on raising funds as Jonathan was focusing on removing me in order to avoid accountability. What is Jonathan hiding and why? I truly feel for the staff at RCC who have endured this behavior for years now. It's time to take back our center for our community.
I've worked closely with Cori to support LGBTQIA+ youth and young adults experiencing homelessness and can already feel their absence in community work meetings due to no choice of their own. And with so few safe spaces for queer youth and especially BIPOC queer youth, it is especially heartbreaking that this has been allowed to happen. There's been zero communication from Rainbow Leadership about the decisions being made, and no attempts at transparency. Last I can not begin to imagine how it was thought to be acceptable to use state violence (police) to attempt to resolve a work conflict, how incredibly dangerous and unforgivable.
I can confirm what the author of this petition is describing. There isn't a single time in the mental health system that I've asked for what was supposed to be help and ended up more traumatized as a result. Very little about the current mental health system is actually helpful and overall it actually tends to make you worse and I've known a lot of people over the years that feel the same.
