In a country of only 30 Million people and many resources, why is it that the healthcare is in a mess and we have to pay for doctors visits ON TOP OF THE TAX we already PAY AS WELL AS FACING price gouging at the supermarket checkout for BASIC food stuff. $8 for 12 eggs is unacceptable. Australia is always branded as "The lucky country", it has now become the country where you are LUCKY if you can afford to live here.
Chronic disease is such a big issue. My recently aunty passed away with lung cancer and she had multiple chronic conditions including diabetes where she ended up with her foot amputated. She could have benefited from better access to a dietitian.
Seeing a dietician has improved my health and wellbeing beyond measure. They are knowledgeable and compassionate people and everyone deserves the help and support they need to nourish their bodies
Food is the at the core of everyone's daily lives. Food is the natural medicine for good health and wellbeing. Dietitian is the food doctor, and is currently hugely undervalued in the public space! People deserve to have access to this whenever they need to, and as frequently as they need to improve their health and subsequently reducing the burden of public health system
Continuous glucose monitoring has changed the lives of people with T1DM, people who are required to administer 5, 5 6 injections of insulin a day plus balance their dietary intake, exercise and their own daily lives. CGM takes away one of the daily chores, finger pricking. CGM allows them to be more aware of the lows and highs and to instigate appropriate treatments sooner. Overall patients using CGM have improved long term outcomes and less hospitalisations. With this in mind, allowing access for people with T2DM-insulin requiring, cystic fibrosis and Type 3c DM, should be placed on the agenda and passed. It is most definitely beneficial to people battling a chronic disease
Not everyone is able or ready to engage in clinical support to aid their goals. This is especially true of young people, those with a trauma background and those with Autism who report that clinical supports often do not fully cater to their needs and can cause more harm than good as a result. People can take years to be ready to change and can take years to implement changes. Therapeutic interventions
need to be accessed via a range of avenues that suit where the individual is at. Art, music and other related therapies have been utilised for hundreds of years to express the pain of people's lives and those experienced by society in general. The effect of being able to access Art and Music therapy offers a level of communication and healing that exists beyond what words can convey and could be argued that this needs to occur or operate side by side with clinical intervention for this to be effective.
Art therapy kept my teen engaged when all other therapies were not working. Removing this therapy option removes choice and control for participants. Removing Art and Music Therapy is a disgrace.
Play therapy has had a significant effect and help for my son. Our therapist has provided amazing support and insight into what my son is feeling and needing as he navigates tricky feelings.
My daughter has been doing art therapy for a year and she has never been so happy doing this is something she really needs it has helped with her anxiety and stress
My daughter is Autistic, and has severe Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).
Many, if not all therapists we have worked with, have been at a loss as to how to assist my daughter in capacity building with regards to her SPD.
Art Therapy has provided a safe space for my daughter to explore, process and build capacity in her ability to function in the world.
SPD has made my daughters life very challenging. It is not just about the smell, taste, touch, sound and sight of everything and her ability to communicate that to others and understand it within herself, it also negatively impacts every aspect of life, from clothing to personal hygiene, the ability to eat and drink, and the environment which she can or cannot be in.
Our Art Therapist has provided a safe space for counseling, non threatening sensory experiences and expression enabling capacity building, assisted and established techniques for self awareness and communication, and development of safe & effective coping mechanisms when faced with challenges to daily function, caused by my daughter's conditions which cause considerable impairments to daily life.
Without continued Art Therapy, I would not have the happy and secure child I have now.
Where all else failed, Art Therapy succeeded.
You cannot take this support away from my daughter. You will destroy her and her potential to continue to build functional capacity and participate in society.
