The Daily Bread supported: Restore PBS to its Former GloryI dont have the answers. I havent seen a line by line of the districts expenses to even begin to know where deficiencies are. However, I can attest that every post that Ms. Ryan has made regarding our budget is informative, and met with resistance. If my kids arent receiving library services and the GT services theyve had at school up until now, I dont see the point in enrolling my students in JUDSON ISD next year. I can enroll them in public school online through K12 and take them to the public library every day when they finish their schoolwork. Then I save money via fundraisers, gas to and from campus, special lunch foods, and more. I get to work on my own schedule too. Will my kids miss out on athletics, special after-school clubs, etc? Yep. However, i wont have the anxiety of other students harming my kids on campus or the bus either, no anxiety about lockdowns from school shooters either!! Our librarians and GT teachers are as valuable to our students education as coaches are, arent they??
The district has to save money everywhere and the argument is that a GT teacher isnt benficial to EVERY student on campus. This conversation has been had before. It was one of the times that I disagreed with Ms. Ryans reasoning. But, shes right that cuts need to be made somewhere, and that's what they will use as explanation- lastly she didnt make those statements lightly, she has students that are GT too. I cant even fathom a school without a library. What is that, a school without a library... it needs a new name because it wont be a school then, it will be something else.
