Our town name is Massapequa, all of Nassau shoures street names are indigenous. Our island is indigenous. Taking these names only removes the heritage of these people’s. I’m proud to be a chief!
I was pleasantly surprised when I came to Hart High in seventh grade in 1956 and learned we were called the Indians. I’m very disappointed that the name changed, I’ll always be a proud Hart High Indian! Since then I have had my niece and nephew go there as well as my sister, daughter, her husband and their daughters who are graduating this year.
