The trash along the MA highways are so much more visible and disturbing compared to neighboring states. The amount of trash is a clear sign of negligence from the government and local officials. Volunteer’s effort can only go so far. We need to take care of our environment, to make it healthier and more beautiful for communities and travelers to enjoy.

When I moved from a town to a city in MA, I was distressed to see not only cigarette butts, nips, and vape cartridges in city center, but also larger litter at every vacant lot, unoccupied turn in the road, and along the sides of busy highways. The most frequent items I find in the more scenic areas are large alcohol containers, Dunkin Donuts plastic and Styrofoam cups, and Styrofoam shell food containers. Why are the residents or travelers doing this? This campaign would help raise awareness directly where those drivers are - in their cars on the road!

This is a cause close to my heart. We just started a campaign in our town of Holden to cleanup litter and beautify our town with plants and flowers. It is so important to take care of our Earth and keep it beautiful!!

We are dealing with effects of climate change & with trash that's mostly clothes or plastic containers its time MA takes serious action including enforcing littering fines on highways & make commercials about the effects of littering

I signed this petition because it is disheartening to see the trash and litter accumulate in our natural world, especially near highways and waterways. Not to mention, the ecological toll that litter has on the environment, especially when it contains plastic. Microplastics have integrated into our water, soil, ecosystem, and even our own bodies. For too long has our society been playing defense against litter and pollution. It is not enough for volunteers to clean up litter after the fact. While the cleanup effort is just as important in helping eliminate litter, it is time for an offensive strategy to instill preventative measures, such as those outlined in this petition.
