Bionicle and Lego as a whole has been a part of my life for decades, and for a company built on the concept of creativity, to now see that very same creativity they helped foster, as competition, is abominable. If this kind of behavior is what LEGO now represents, then I will not be supporting them or passing down the love I had for them for generations to come. Unless they backtrack on this immoral betrayal of their loyal fans, some of whom have been essentially putting out a free advertisement for LEGO for the past 8 years in the form of this project, I suggest we all look elsewhere from now on. For a company whose motto used to be “Play Well”, this is not only a disgrace to their integrity but their very identity.
Like many others I am a huge Bionicle fan, particularly of the initial 3 years of the story. In 2001 I was introduced to Bionicle by my two older brothers and at the time I was 4. Since then my love for the story has never left me. Our toys we had as kids had long since been lost to time but starting about 10 years ago, I have slowely been collecting sets from 2001 - 2003. I had been following the development of this game for the last 3 years and was incredibly excited for it's release. This would have been something incredible for the Bionicle community, particularly fans of the 2001 storyline. I see no reason to not push back against this ridiculous decision on Lego's part. Please sign the petition to restore this game and to allow the developers to finish it. We were so close to having the Bionicle game we've all dreamed of having since we were kids.
Bionicle was a defining part of my childhood, and remains to this day some of the best storytelling I have ever come across. A vibrant fanbase has only added to it and kept it alive in body and spirit, and have pushed it to grow into new media and exceeds its early limitations. There is an opportunity for Lego to embrace this positivity, even to what they might consider a dead brand, to recognize its still-beating heart, and honor it's contributions to the fanbase, and to the company it saved. There is so much potential being missed by cutting down success. It is easier to destroy, as the Makuta teaches, and I know Legal and Finance like to save a quick buck in the short term, but there are long term ramifications in pushing the fanbase over and stomping on them and their labors of love towards Lego and its products. We love Bionicle with all our hearts and a world without it is gray and dull, just as a world without Lego. (though feet might be saved ;P)
Please let us keep the color and joy alive. Please support the lessons your worlds and characters inspire and teach. For we learned much from Bionicle, and pass it on to the next generation, and thus you become a beacon to those lessons. Let us celebrate creation in Unity. Stand by the fans in shared Duty. And persevere against the quick rot of decay so that we and Lego can find our Destiny!
Lego Bionicle was an amazing part of thousands and thousands of Lego fans childhoods and Lego is betraying there fan base by dismissing this dedication to an amazing fan project - it should be allowed to exist as a non-commercial celebration of a beloved Lego theme
Lego, I'm heartbroken at the cancellation of this fan made project and I'm pleading with you to reconsider your decision. This is an amazing game and it would bring immense joy and feelings of nostalgia to be able to play as the Bionicle characters that I played with as a young pre-teen.
I grew up playing with Bionicle. I used to play MNOG before getting any sets, on my super old computer in the kitchen that could barely run Windows XP. My first physical set was Kongu Inika, quickly followed by Hahli and Nuparu. Once the Mahri were released, I got the entire Mahri team, followed by every other constraction set in the line. I've been a faithful fan since then, and it breaks my heart to see LEGO shutting down such a passion project. There's still so many fans of Bionicle out there, if LEGO won't keep it going, the fans will, one way or another. Please give Team Kanohi your support.
After being given explicit endorsement, approval for over 8 years, working with the rules and fully complying with the copyright holder the rug has been pulled for simply being too good. The LEGO Group has alienated Bionicle and its fans for far too long: The least we could have is a NON-PROFIT unfinished fan demo for a game we’ll now never get. I look forward to the future of the original IP that the dev team has shift gears to developing but they should be allowed to at least let us play what was already done.
