I currently know 2 people that have been inmates at Westville for over a yr. The conditions there are demoralizing and disheartening! They are served slop, it's either too hot or too cold, there are broken windows and black mold everywhere, illegal activity is encouraged from the staff-it shows gang status/ranking and everyday is a balance between life or death and hoping g that you make it to your release date! Building a new prison is great but there needs to be some serious changes happen! Inmates are still human beings, they should not be treated like rabid animals!
My brother was killed in westville a week ago they called it a suicide and wouldn't help us or provide any details! Also wouldn't give us his belongings!
The prison system as a whole makes entirely too much money housing men and women not to give them better living conditions and just the treatment of them period. Throwing people in cages and treating them less than human is a disgrace and very harmful them to their mental to their self esteem to their health to their spirit. Treat them like humans and maybe them won't come angry and with a savage mentality. Prison is meant to reform them not to tear a person's spirit. I believe the whole prison system needs an overhall
Everybody deserves a second chance consider how young my cousin was when all of this happened he never truly had a childhood he always must moving from home to home place the place but in the end he has a very good heart I will never forget the time we spent Christmas together we were both in the 10th grade my cousins is a very sweet n loving boy who grew up to be a man and had to grow up and be a man in prison that's hard when prison isn't rehabilitation a lot of times and for him to turn his life around and to try to rehabilitate himself in the walls of the prison after them guards almost beat my cousin to death and nothing ever came out of none of the guards beating up my cousin they still got their jobs they still able to go home to their families but one mistake that my cousin made when he was a teenager with no type of guidance no parental guidance just learning to be in the streets on his own so I asked for you judges and parole board to please give my cousin a second chance
