DEMAND GA DEPT. OF CORRECTIONS, PARDONS & PAROLE, GOV. KEMP IMMEDIATELY TAKE ACTION
The Issue
An increasingly dire situation comes to light from witnessing brutal beatings, stabbings, and murders within the walls of gdoc facilities.Horrific forms of violence take place daily within the Georgia Department of Corrections. Alarmingly, it's not uncommon to observe guards negligent of their duty, even enabling violent confrontations among inmates. The state of the facilities is appalling, with buildings infested with roaches, contaminated water, and food trays left unattended for hours, while basic amenities such as secure housing and working phones are non existent. These men and women going into these facilities the likely hood of them making it to their release dates is getting slimmer day by day.
Moreover, dormitories have been left unmonitored, and even critical high security zones are devoid of surveillance cameras. The situation has escalated to the point where repeated cries for help during violent attacks have been ignored. It is simply unacceptable for those individuals serving their time, who deserve basic human rights and safety, to be neglected in this horrific manner.
Under these conditions, a long overdue comprehensive review of Georgia Department of Corrections' practices is imperative. Inmate rights must be upheld and guaranteed by holding the staff accountable for their actions, including negligence and corruption. Moreover, immediate action must be taken to improve the living conditions within the facilities; securing housing units, ensuring the availability of balanced diets, and terminating pest infestations.
This petition serves as a plea to the Georgia Pardons and Parole for a swift and effective action plan to overhaul current practices. We demand they begin processing inmates well past their first, second, fifth TPMs yet set off another few years. It implores the Georgia Department of Corrections to take on its ironclad responsibility to keep inmates safe, safeguard their rights, and maintain the dignity of every humanity's core.
Let's lead the call for change. Sign this petition to hold our institutions accountable and to assure that those serving time do so under humane conditions. Your voice matters, let it be heard.
