The Issue

Lockdowns are CDCR’s way of preventing communication with our Incarcerated Loved Ones. They claim lockdowns are essential due to the fact that there are overdoses, contraband, and violence. CDCR's employees and Free staff members are with our loved ones more often than family and friends are. Those who spend the most time with incarcerated individuals need to be screened and bag checked as well, for they are the ones who interact with incarcerated individuals the most and can and do bring contraband inside.

To ensure the safety and well-being of both the incarcerated individuals and the staff, it is imperative that every single staff member and visitor undergo rigorous screening.  This includes passing through metal detectors and having personal belongings screened for contraband to prevent any illegal items from entering the facilities. It’s only fair that the same criteria used for visitors should apply to staff members who are in contact with incarcerated persons on a daily basis.

This can only be successful if an OUT SOURCED company is screening. This prevents CDCR Staff from allowing in contraband to their fellow Officers as a favor, bribe or part of the transactions that take place.

Statistics have shown that contraband and unauthorized items are often introduced into correctional facilities by those working within the system. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, incidents of contraband smuggling involving prison staff have increased over the past years, contributing to the dangerous environment inside. This endangers not only the individuals inside the correctional facilities but also compromises the overall security of the institution.

Implementing stringent screening procedures at the beginning and end of each shift for all employed by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and all Free Staff will be a significant step toward reducing the introduction of contraband and enhancing the safety of everyone involved.

We urge the CDCR and relevant authorities to introduce these measures immediately for the safety and security of everyone within the correctional facilities. Please sign this petition to demand action and help protect our incarcerated loved ones from harm.
