I have always been aware of WWII from my Dad and my Uncles. What happened during the Holocaust should never have happened. It is a sin on humankind that it did happen. And I am afraid it will happen here now.
My grandmother lived through WWII. She watched the bridge to her home blown up. She dealt with horrible acts that Nazi soldiers did to her and other women. She told me that Hitler was great at making people believe in him and that he seemed to charm the German people. She saw right through it. She ended up meeting my grandfather from the United States while she worked in a bar. I am so thankful that they met. She was one of the strongest women that I have ever known.
Her story has always stuck with me. This is not something that should be erased. This indeed happened. You cannot magically
erase history because it doesn't suit your
politics. History is here for a reason, to
teach us to not repeat it.
Because I have had friends from almost every continent around the world, because America IS at it's best when we ARE A MELTING POT and when embrace people who come here looking for a brighter future.... because we were the brightest future.... and I hate the idea that we won't be anymore because that's what's happening right now the US is going dark...very dark for it's future and the future of those who love here. Watch us fall apart and all apart fast.
History is uncomfortable, but learning about it and working through the discomfort to not let the bad parts happen again is the only way for our society not to fall into darkness.
There has been too much rewriting of history being done in the past few years. It needs to Stop! We should not be removing anything, we should be learning from it.
The Holocaust pages need to be restored. There are too many people who claim that it never happened, or that the numbers were inflated.
I teach Holocaust studies and Human rights issues; in an era of people being accused of antisemitism in the US for protesting war I find this erasure of history alarming and contradictory to our collective values and memory.
I married into a Jewish family and have many wonderful Jewish people in my extended family circle. Their ancestors' stories matter. The Holocaust happened. We cannot let our country be brainwashed into believing the events during WWII were not "that bad." Anne Frank was a real person and her diary is not fiction!
This is a despicable effort to whitewash history and cleanse white supremacy. I am a white male of Germanic heritage, and these activities make me sick to my stomach and ashamed of my race. They said "never again" in 1945, and now in 2025, it's "here we go again"!
History is still History, even if you make it harder to find. The Holocaust was a pivotal moment in our history. Please give it it’s rightful place, so many people died because of it.
