My husband was recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. It has spread to other areas and is Stage 4. He had a terrible motorbike accident last year and his injuries, surgeries x 4 and recovery has masked some of the symptoms. A simple blood test yearly would have prevented this late discovery. His urologist believes he may have had prostrate for the last 10 years. He is 57 and we have been told average life expectancy is 5 years. Bring on mandatory testing!
I was diagnosed 3 years ago with prostate cancer at 48. I didn’t even know about PSA testing until my GP said I should get tested due to my family history . It came as a massive shock finding out I had cancer and I am grateful that my GP recommended the test.
There is massive stigma amongst men to get tested. I think that’s largely due to men not being aware that it’s as simple as a PSA test now.
My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer 3 years ago which had already spread to other areas of his body by the time the diagnosis was made. If these tests were annual for men, his cancer may have been picked up sooner and he wouldn’t still be fighting the hard fight. Please sign so that other Aussie men don’t have to go undiagnosed.
My Father in law passed from Prostate Cancer , My partner and Brother in law are both in their 50's I have had to advocate and push on their behalf a to get them tested please Men like to think it's ok nothing wrong do not fix it it's fine well prostate Cancer is silent Save our Men
My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2022 at age 44 . He had no symptoms .We were just taking precautions as he was adopted and had no family history .It was aggressive and the Drs said he if we hadn’t caught it he would have been dead in 18 months. Our boys were aged 4,8 and 12 . He had to have a prostatectomy. ( the whole prostate removed) The cancer was contained within the prostate so he didn’t have to have chemo or radiation . There were some problems after the operation but we worked through them and 23 years later he’s happy and has seen his boys now 30,34 and 38 grow up and get grandchildren .
Because his cancer was so aggressive the Drs said our boys need to be checked from age 36. Early detection is VITAL !!!
Excessive working hours are not safe! Fatigue is not a good place to be in when decisions are needed in patient care. Reasonable hours and sufficient time between shifts is a right. Our doctors need our support. We need them to be mentally fit and fresh! This is how we are safe in hospitals. Transport patients to external radiology clinics so that diagnosis is made quickly rather that patients stuck in hospital beds waiting for limited availability in big hospitals. Win win on both fronts.
