Health equity is a crucial topic that addresses disparities in access to healthcare and outcomes based on race, income, gender, and other social determinants of health. Recent events have highlighted the disproportionate impact of health inequities, such as the COVID-19 pandemic revealing the deep-rooted disparities in healthcare access and outcomes.
Petitions under this topic focus on advocating for affordable healthcare for all, eliminating barriers to access, and addressing systemic inequalities in the healthcare system. One petition with significant support calls for expanding Medicaid coverage to provide healthcare to low-income individuals and families. Another petition highlights the need for culturally competent care to ensure marginalized communities receive quality healthcare services.
Join the movement for health equity by supporting these petitions and advocating for policies that promote equal access to healthcare for all. Your participation can help address the root causes of health disparities and create a more equitable healthcare system.

Reading the background of this entire, miserable situation, something is indeed rotten—it’s yet another example of “astroturfing” by an outside group/entity, for their own nefarious purposes, who’ve no regard for the people it will affect. We witnessed plenty of this harmful activity during our 8 years in Florida. The residents of the DeForest water district must be allowed to vote on this issue. I grew up in DeForest & I want today’s residents to have the benefits of fluoride that I did/do, not be harmed by the “win” of some interloping, anti-science charlatan who’s duped members of the Village Board! Referendum NOW!
I showed up and spoke to the board to voice my concerns and to layout the scientific facts about fluoridation. It fell on deaf ears. Like others have stated, this big of a change should have been put on a referendum for a vote by the people it will affect. I’m also concerned that my home will lose some value as people realize DeForest 1. No longer has fluoride for their children’s dental health and 2. That the board of this village doesn’t take the will of its people into account. I am sickened by the scientific illiteracy and the step toward willful ignorance.
Cervical cancer is preventable, yet it disproportionately affects underserved communities. Expanding HPV vaccine access, screenings, and public health education can save lives and address health inequities. No woman should die from a preventable disease—we have the tools to act now.
