Culture, arts and music are so important to communities. The world’s a pretty tough and grim place. We need these events so that people can have fun and some joy. It’d be really sad if these were cancelled. It’s not permanent it’s for a brief spell.
Our Brockwell festivals are far from perfect; there is a lot to be said and a lot to be improved. But let's not let that get in the way of culture, music, and giving our local community this amazing accessible opportunity for fun for all ages: from toddlers and families to ageing music lovers.
Let's improve what doesn't work and find a better balance for everyone's benefit. But shutting the festivals down is not fair, and it is definitely not better for all.
These events bring joy and creativity to our area, and help to champion under-represented groups such as the LGBTQ+ community. We should be proud to host them locally!
Fun, self contained events in like the ones held in Brockwell park -- and other parks in London -- are a huge boon to the local population in what is increasingly a hard city to live in and where enjoyment can be hard to access. To be able to attend a music festival or large cultural event in on your doorstep is enriching to the lives of its attendees. It's also valuable to the performers and participants -- London's number of performance venues continues to dwindle year on year
The campaigns to ostensibly cancel these (and realistically other similar events across the city) are selfish, haughty and self-important, ignorantly and disrespectfully referring to the closed off areas of Brockwell Park as oppressive 'gulags' or 'internment camps', invoking real historical struggles to enforce the will of a self-righteous minority.
