I'm a graduate of McCoy and the LEAP program who is now in my 30s. My experiences at McCoy and in this program were invaluable and shaped both me as a person and my later academic career. Please reconsider closing the school!
I attended McCoy over 15 years ago and I still have super vivid positive memories of my time there, as a student that benefitted from the LEAP program but also from the tremendous amount of care, support, and enthusiasm of all its teachers. The colonial fair, the little brain fuel snacks on state testing days, the field days, etc.—each and every one of these things became such core memories for me, shaping my future interests and providing me with a true community. The LEAP program specifically made such a lifelong impact that I can say with certainty I would not be as successful as I am now without it.
As an original student of McCoy Elementary (4th-6th) when it was first built and still living in the neighborhood, I’ve been proud to see the students and teachers keep up a high level of academic standards. We have a vibrant community around this school-let’s keep it open!
I was a parent of children of McCoy for 9 years straight. Closing this elementary is a huge mistake and only hurts the kiddos, which is what this is ALL ABOUT!! CFBISD got this one wrong with their choice!! I am flabbergasted by this and will go as far as I can to save this incredible school!!
As a future McCoy parent (my child is eligible for kinder next year), we were so excited to have her meet other neighborhood children and create a sense of pride in her school and community. We hope that the school board hears our pleas to keep the school open and give these students the same childhood experiences we had!!!
I bought my home a year after I got married because we wanted to start a family and have our kids go to McCoy Elementary. Closing McCoy Elementary to have my kids go to schools that are farther and not as good is crushing. Not to mention that our property values will go down and we don't know what will go in place of the school since the land will be sold. I would hate for an apartment complex to divide our extremely quiet neighborhood.
My wife and I moved to this particular area because of McCoy Elementary and its high academic success. Without this school, we would likely consider relocating because of the drop in quality of education and property values.
