To The School District Transportation Department

We, the undersigned parents and guardians of students residing in the Allen Mills neighborhood, respectfully request an adjustment to the current bus route for Bus 396.

Allen Mills is the closest neighborhood to the school, located just 0.7 miles away, with a drive time of approximately 2 minutes. Despite this, our children are currently being picked up as early as 7:15 a.m., which results in them spending an unnecessarily long time on the bus. With the school day beginning at 8:15 a.m., this early pickup time is unreasonable given the proximity of our neighborhood to the school.

 • Sufficient Number of Allen Mills Students: Allen Mills has a large number of students using Bus 396. Given the high number of riders from our neighborhood, adjusting the route to pick up Allen Mills students last will streamline the process rather than disrupt other stops.

 • Minimal Impact on Other Families: A slight adjustment in the pickup order or time would not have a major impact on other families. In fact, the time change would improve the efficiency of the route for all riders, as it would reduce unnecessary early pickups.

 • Majority Support: The majority of families affected by this proposed change would welcome it, as it allows children more rest and reduces the length of their bus rides.

We are requesting that:

 • The Allen Mills stop be moved to later in the route, ideally picking up students last or near the end of the route, so that our children do not have to board the bus so early for such a short commute.

 • The drop-off order remain unchanged, with Allen Mills students being dropped off first, as it makes logistical sense for our neighborhood given its proximity to the school.

This adjustment would not only improve the efficiency of the bus route but also contribute to the well-being of our children by allowing them more rest and reducing their time spent on the bus.

We kindly ask that the school transportation department consider this request and work to revise the route in a way that better serves the students of Allen Mills.
