Being Homeless is not a choice, often the result of bad luck. But that isn't the case in Canada, we are a nation going through a housing crisis. A crisis often reveals who a
person truly is at their core. Let's make sure that the crisis currently affecting Canadians, specifically Toronto citizens, shows who we are as a nation. That we are a kind, compassionate and strong nation. That we will weather not only winter storms, but also these storms together. Every person deserves somewhere safe to sleep.

They’re people too, like you and I, with their own livelihoods and stories. But they may not have it as easy as us, and it’s up to us to help them when they can’t do so for themselves. These things could happen to almost anybody going through a rough time, even to these good people. So please, if you are able, help these people. You could have the power to change their lives for the better. The time is now.

We are not exempt from becoming homeless, anything can happen, if you was at your lowest and happen to be on the streets you would want someone to help provide a warm shelter to be safe in. I am appalled that sheltering those in need has become an issue, what happened to humanity??

Homelessness is criminalized, only a few years ago the city kicked out everyone sleeping in city park. I’ve seen a road sign, one of the orange LED ones, telling homeless people to sleep in the woods instead of the streets. The insanity of that message alone is heartbreaking. How can individuals access transportation, human services, foods banks, if they go an hour out of the city into the mountains to sleep in the woods?! This project proves there is still human decency in the world. It’s tragic that government bodies attempt to stifle civilian attempts at helping the community. Keep doing the good work, keep fighting back against oppression.

Hoarding all that space, and for what? While people are robbed of their homes, of dignity and a livelihood. You can do better than this.

These shelters are vital and are being funded entirely through donations and public support. Instead of getting rid of them, the city of Toronto should embrace this and similar housing efforts.
