Whatever a person's race, nationality, colour, creed, level of intelligence, marital status, age, gender, sexual orientation, background or religious beliefs, I strongly believe that, when it comes to fulfilling the basic human need for proper food, clean water, adequate clothing and shelter, to be treated with dignity and respect and, tying all these basic necessities together, being an integral part of a caring and sharing community where one is able to love others and to be loved in return, we are all equal. Only then can the troubled individual be free to contribute to the common good in society - and not because he or she feels forced to! Furthermore, for anybody who believes that working together for peace is very difficult, I urgently need to remind you that the cost of war (such as wholesale destruction of private property and other vital infrastructure, physical injury, psychological trauma, permanent disability, socio-economic disruption, poverty, disease, starvation and, most tragically of all, the loss of loved ones) is much, much greater!
As a self published author, we need this!!! I might not use it for myself but it is the main income for a lot of authors, and I don't want it to shut down!
I had my book pirated once. It hurt, yes. But it's a whole lot more than just that! Authors put in years of work - years of blood, sweat and tears - to write their stories and to achieve their dreams of becoming authors and inspiring people and to actually be able to make a living from their work. Pirating pretty much destroys a lot of that. Authors lose money, especially indie authors like me. This has happened to big, traditionally published authors, and it's been terrible for them, not being able to make any money and so having their book deals almost canceled! So what about the smaller authors? Indie authors who don't exactly have this giant publisher to help? I will admit, I haven't been through the absolute worst of the worst. But I've heard and seen enough to know how harmful pirating books can be. And now having books removed from Amazon, for things we cannot even control?? That is just unfair. And I could say a WHOLE LOT MORE about this, but this should be enough for now.
