I work at a Samsung store, and I see countless people daily who are stuck trying to switch from an iPhone because of iMessage. The lack of RCS on Australian networks is allowing Apple to continue locking people into their ecosystem. Anti-competitive, anti-consumer.
Lack of ultrawide support and locked frame rate on PC was unacceptable 5+ years ago, let alone now in 2025! Back when Dark Souls PTDE launched on PC, it took a single modder less than 1 day to put out a patch to fix these issues, and that was a decade ago, so it's clearly not a difficult process. I love the Souls series of games but for some reason From Software don't care at all about the PC community and make us struggle to find workarounds for issues that 99% of new games don't have. And even if you do find a fix, you're usually limited to not playing online and risk getting banned, all because you want to actually use the hardware you bought to play games on. I've been using ultrawides for over a decade now and just recently bought a 9070XT, but for some reason, From Software just decides that means nothing and would rather just have complete parity with consoles. The game doesn't even have PVP so the advantage argument doesn't hold up. And even if you did, Lost Ark was the 1 game that got that right. You could play any resolution you wanted but if you were into PVP, there was a "force ultrawide" option for people using 16:9 monitors. It's 2025 From Software, do better.
AI in my opinion just makes things you can do with a google search that little bit more simple and easy, and should serve no other purpose. But I rarely see AI used in that way. Especially AI chatbots. I know of a kid who ended up comitting suicide because of character.ai. It is harmful and AI often isn't even reliable for the one task it is genuinely useful for. I am under 18 but since I never started using AI in the first place, especially not for that purpose, I don't see any reason it should be so accessible. I manage perfectly fine without it.
Lately I’ve been inundated with in app ads for these sorts of apps and it’s absolutely disgusting. AI chatbots are untrustworthy in general and the way these AI ‘personas’ are portrayed (especially female personas) is really demeaning, sleazy and at times downright disturbing through perpetuating mysoginistic stereotypes and promoting harmful behaviour using often borderline (or even straight up) pornography as a reward.
I’m very much of a mind that these AI ‘companion’ apps need to be much better regulated or ideally outright banned because as it is currently they’re just really scummy and not something minors should be exposed to.
I have two grandchildren under 6, thoughts of this in the hands of children is simply aphorent to me. I cannot understand why people/Adults get blocked or banned on FB for trivial things yet this goes unanswered or kids unprotected. I can’t see any positive benefit 🤷♀️🫣
We are allowing the mega corporates to influence our children’s emotional experiences, they need to be protected before we add more people to the already over populated therapists wait list, mega corporates don’t see street level damage in the pursuit of greed, who will stand up?
Keep AI in the professional/commercial domain, and out of reach of school aged children. Better for their brains, our environment, and our future as a thinking species.
