Kohler Andrae State Park is a gem of nature, a place to camp, walk the beach in all seasons. My go-to place to find solitude, listen to wind, waves. Please keep Kohler Andrae for us, future generations
Planting natives is the only the only way going forward. They can withstand the extreme weather of North Texas, without much of my help. They support a whole ecosystem for the wildlife.
Nobody is coming to save us from climate change. WE have to save ourselves. And a critical way to do that is through native plants, which actually create cooler microclimates and serve the pollinators, birds, and other wildlife they have co-evolved with over millennia. Not to mention, native plants will naturally do better in their environments and will not need soil amendments, fertilizer, or extra water during droughts. Please help empower viewers to make these small but impactful changes in their own yards.
People in America often live their lives without a sense of place. If people were encouraged to use the native flora of their region, they could be inspired to create a home that they can be proud of by helping their local native species thrive.
The pollinators need us with so much habitat loss and so many non native plants that don’t provide any food for them. We know we can do better and be a positive change!!
As a professional ecologist, I fully support the push for a return to native plants and Doug Tallamy explains the why and how extremely well. The science behind it is well established but we need people who can reach broad audiences to encourage people to get on board. HGTV has a unique opportunity to make a massive positive impact on our society, economy, and natural world with little effort and expense.
I have spent years obliterating the lawn in my 1 acre yard, and planting MANY hundreds of wildflowers...more than 100 species native to East Central Illinois. Promoting the planting of local natives will bring back the birds, the bugs, the butterflies and all!!!
While gardening with cultivars might looks beautiful at first glance, soon we realize something is missing - the caterpillars, birds, and native bees. It is time to start replacing our unsustainable lawns with native gardens. It is time to start recognizing the beauty in stewarding the land as a living relative. It is time to find the joy in planting host plants for native species. It is time to delight in creating biodiversity in our own landscapes. It is time to seriously remove invasive species. It is time to learn about gardening with native plants. It is time for sustainable, climate resilient, low input landscapes. It is time to welcome and find beauty in nature.
We voted for Jeffco Open Space to protect our forests and wildlife habitat - not to sell the trees to lumber companies. It is time for you to fulfill your responsibilities to the citizens of Jefferson County and stop the logging of our parks. Your actions or lack of action today will be remembered by future citizens. We are losing what is most precious about living in Evergreen - being able to hike in healthy forests and enjoy our wildlife.
I am heartbroken and demoralized to hear about the level of corruption in Seattle government and lack of commitment to preserving our native trees. It is entirely possible to build responsibly to preserve irreplacible habitat without sacrificing profits. I want to know that my government has the strength to choose "what's right" over "what's easy" and stand up to corporate interests. Please take the long view.
