My husband was air lifted to Novant last May when it was discovered that he had a huge subdural hematoma that needed immediate surgery. For the 10 days he was there, I found it nearly impossible to get timely updates regarding his condition. Speaking to the surgion who performed his procedures was out of the question. Whenever I went to the nurses' desk I felt like I was intruding on their personal conversations. I was very happy when he was released. He deserved better care than he received at Novant.

We deserve better!My wife retired from novant ,when it was new hanover county hostpital,after a 22 year career as an RN. in 2016 she died in icu at that hospital because they waited till after 5 emergency room visits, that spanned about a week ,to do an MRI on her which detected a spinal infection. for some reason they refused to do an MRI. never found out exactly why but i would guess money.we do deserve better here in wilmington. we were once a very good hospital but once novant bought it, care almost immediatly started declining. please keep on fighting for better care

We deserve better!Yes, I totally believe that we should get five star here unfortunately I had an emergency at Novant at emergency room and Wilmington North Carolina last year. I was making pottery and somehow got into a dye that caused me to have an allergy. My skin was burning. My nerves are burning really bad and I need a relief (ex.ice pack)I was a crying. I had to beg to see a doctor, because all I had was PAs to visit my room. I was ignored. They were rude and one of the nurses discharged me without any medication or any relief. That was just my diagnosis. This diagnosis was it from the doctor so I did not get treated and I still don’t know why one of the nurses discharge me out of anger they would not even bring me a bottle of water or Tylenol. The nurse had said that the lady next-door was dying And that I was not of any importance. I told please I need to stay until I get care. She called three security guards to escort me outside with no treatment I had to suffer, not knowing if I could continue with my pottery upon my small craft business. Therefore, it caused a lack in my finances. Both because they wanted me to pay for the visit and the time. Also, I have not made any pottery since then the pottery was boxed pottery from a craft store. I’m very unsure if I can use it again so that definitely hurt my pocket. Good luck with the Five store petition I am most definitely a supporter. Thank you. We need more care.

We deserve better!My personal experience with this horrible hospital and it's arrogant, sub- standard ER doctors almost killed me--dr Eric Silman told me I was a waste of his time and sent me home when several weeks later I was in renal kidney failure when I had NEVER had any kidney problems--I contacted the NC State Medical board--they don't care. Last year I was referred to the Oncologist OBGYN department at Novant--ever though I didn't want to go, I went. That Oncology gynecologist, Dr John Michael Robinson told me I needed a hysterectomy and that he would send the samples he cut off me in for testing--I was to come back in when the lab results came back. I went back and was told that it was up to me--a hysterectomy or wait a year and come back for another lab test. I asked for a referral to Duke (should have done that to begin with) when the Dr at Duke looked at me she told me I needed surgery due to the lesions on me (just 2 weeks later) and that I did NOT need a hysterectomy. Had I done what the Dr at Novant advised me to do, I would have no doubt had a hysterectomy I did not need and ended up with cancer of the cervix by waiting a year to have it treated properly. Again, the NC State Medical board did NOTHING--it's all about the money folks and they protect the doctors-- I made copies of MyChart records last year and when I looked at them today, they had been changed. This is so corrupt. Why is it that in 134 days that those board members on here Leanne Pearce and the 2 others have not once responded--who elects these morons? We not only deserve better health care--we need to demand it--this is twice now that rotten, filthy hospital almost cost me my life--be your own advocate because they don't care about us.
Marjorie ha sostenuto: Demand Improvement in Wilmington's Healthcare. We deserve better!I watched my mom die while NHRMC/NOVANT EMT's stood around her acting like they didn't want to touch her. The three of them couldn't get her out of the house (even with me trying to help), and she started to fall off the gerny, thank God Heavy Rescue arrived and that one gentleman was able to get her into the ambulance. Sadly, though, by that time, she was already gone. The same thing happened with my uncle. They dragged him across the floor on a sheet like a bag of trash and I have two friends with similar stories who have lost loved ones as a result of their [Novant/Pender County EMT's] LACK of QUALITY CARE. I didn't even realize how poorly they'd treated my mom until it was too late. I had to be medicated after her death, and the satute of limitations had run out, or I definitely would have taken legal action against them! I have told my family that in case of an emergency, PLEASE!! SEND ME TO CAPE FEAR HOSPITAL!!!

We deserve better!The medical professionals at Novant failed my daughter; she presented to the hospital in April 2022 and was first diagnosed with Aspiration Pneumonia and was hospitalized for almost a week, after which they sent her home. We didn't know at the time that my daughter had a collapsed lung until we rec'd the x-rays with the April date on it. So when they sent her home without addressing the fluid in her lung, they signed her death warrant. After being persistent with her primary care doctor, they ordered new lab work. When those labs were tested, my daughter rec'd a call telling her to get to the hospital ASAP; this was at the end of July 2022. She lived until August 8 and passed away on her 37th birthday from sepsis, which could have been avoided had they treated the fluid in her lung when she was in the hospital in April 2022

We deserve better!I came to the emergency room with appendicitis, an urgent care nurse told me to get to the emergency room immediately. I waited 9 hours and my appendix then burst. I then waited 2 more hours going septic and spent 16 days in the hospital.

When I was in the ambulance I was told “no I didn’t I am too young” when I got to the ER I was told “no we don’t think you had a stroke we think you have a migraine “….. the next day after they decided to do scans I had a stroke. The care at novant is down right horrible.

I had to take her back the next day because of the severe pain and breathing problems. Turned out she really had four broken ribs and a collapsed lung. That ER is a travesty.

We deserve better!During a recent visit to Novant (Previously New Hanover) Hospital, I felt like very few people cared about their jobs. Employees/Staff in the emergency department were walking around like they had no cares in the world, nobody but mandatory staff spoke to me while I sat there in a wheel chair, people were watching videos on their phone and joking about things. I understand to them it’s a job, but to the people coming in, it could be life or death, managing severe pain or illnesses; and, seeing people act like they could care less makes one feel more than uncomfortable and lacking confidence in their abilities. This, along with previous stories and experiences on site are more than enough to make me feel I never want to step foot in this facility again, even more so if it’s life or death. I’d rather risk being air lifted to Duke and potentially dying on the way than hoping Novant NHC can provide adequate care.
