The Issue

A "C" Rated Hospital is NOT Good Enough. We Deserve High-Quality Hospital Care in Wilmington!

Wilmington's New Hanover Regional Medical Center has received a troubling 2 out of 5 stars from Medicare and a "C" grade from Leapfrog, reflecting persistently low-quality care over the past five years. These ratings are not just numbers—they represent real harm to our community. It’s time for change.

What a Low-Quality Hospital Means:

Hospital ratings from Medicare are not like Yelp reviews. They don’t reflect trivial issues like customer service—they measure outcomes that directly impact lives: increased suffering, preventable disabilities, and even avoidable deaths.

This is especially alarming because New Hanover Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in the Lower Cape Fear region that provides advanced and specialized care. For most residents, there are no other options. Our community deserves better.

What We Can Do:

The Cape Fear Five Star Project has introduced a resolution to the New Hanover County Commissioners calling for a 5-year master plan to significantly improve the hospital’s quality. This plan would set clear, measurable goals and require detailed progress updates to the community every six months. Transparency and accountability are essential steps toward ensuring better outcomes for all.

How You Can Help:

Sign this petition to demand better healthcare for the residents of Wilmington and surrounding counties. By adding your name, you send a powerful message to our leaders: the status quo is unacceptable. Together, we can advocate for a safer, higher-quality hospital that truly serves our community’s needs.
