Protect 1,266 Acres from Development and Establish a State Park in Brunswick County

The Issue

I am a long-time resident of Brunswick County, NC, and have spent countless hours enjoying the beauty of nature and our wildlife with my children and now my grandchildren. However, these cherished moments require us to drive for hours due to the lack of nearby natural spaces. As an active member of both NC and SC zoos and numerous parks, I understand the value that such spaces will bring to our community - not just in terms of recreation but also education.

Now we face a critical situation. A sprawling 1,266-acres of land parcels thriving with wildlife is under threat from development. This land is home to numerous endangered animals and plants that need our protection. Moreover, it has potential for Wetland Conservation which plays an essential role in maintaining water quality, providing habitat for wildlife, storing floodwaters and enhancing aesthetic values. The wetlands are a vital part of our coastal areas biodiversity!

I propose that our county purchase this land before it's too late - transforming it into a National Park complete with a wildlife rehabilitation center as well as educational facilities focused on wetland conservation would be beneficial for everyone involved. There is so much funding thats available from the government and organizations that will cover alot of the expenses, build, and even to purchase the land so the whole project isn't strictly coming out of our taxes. I can volunteerly set up donations from our community also.

This initiative would serve multiple purposes: preserving precious ecosystems; providing closer-to-home recreational opportunities; educating residents (especially children) about environmental stewardship; boosting local economy through tourism revenue; saving endangered wildlife habitats and plants that's flourishing on that land now.

Let's stand together as proud residents of Brunswick County, NC who care deeply about their environment. Let's ensure future generations can enjoy the same natural beauty we have been privileged enough to experience ourselves while learning about its importance at the same time.

Please sign this petition urging county officials to protect these 1,266 acres from development by establishing a new National Park right here in Brunswick County!
