My family has been involved with this District for 10 years. At the school level it’s been good, with many wonderful teachers and admins. At the District level it’s been chaos and fragility, one distraction after another preventing real progress. And now Trustee Tabet has decided to dig in for personal gain? It’s shameful, embarrassing, and a “screw you” to parents, staff, and teachers who just want a quality public education in Burbank.
I have two children in Santa Rosa school district. I am a mom scraping by for groceries and my kids dad has long work days. If these schools close how are they going to get an education at the same time I should be working so I can afford food and clothing for my kids? Employers frown upon bringing children into the workplace and the state mandates children be enrolled in school. Please help us provide a balance for working class families like mine. Thank you for the opportunity to voice my experience as a mom stuck living in an expensive area.
It is absolutely ridiculous that they “informed” bus drivers 2 days in advance that they were “thinking about” the idea of doing this. Only to implement it days later, without informing anyone, as mentioned in other comments the bus company did not even know of the switches being made. The lack of poor planning on the board led to this issue. You cannot put bus drivers on a route in beacon falls or prospect with drop off times at 3:00-3:30 while also giving them routes in Woodbridge or ansonia for the same times. The board has caused its OWN issue and now is trying to make it everyone else problem. They don’t care because it’s not them who would have to leave work and pick up their kids. Shame on them.
A 3 mile walk from the bus stop to our house. Not on side streets, but on main roads! Route 69 does NOT have sidewalks all the way down the roadway. My children would be forced to walk on a small shoulder of that main road, while people are driving by at 45-55 mph. One person who is texting and driving or not paying attention can easily strike our kids with the vehicle, putting their lives in danger. This proposal is completely unacceptable and the town of Prospect needs to do better.
Cutting the Special Ed budget is a disservice to our children and adults with special needs. This is a population that benefits from the resources provided by the school system, and they are absolutely necessary so that they can learn skills and be part of society in our community.
