Why take away something that brings so much happiness? Whenever I go anywhere, I love meeting local artisans, talking with them, and buying unique pieces! I’ve looked for some of them online to buy more pieces later on. This is a petition that shouldn’t have to exist. Are you going to ban rainbows in the sky and fresh fruit cups from the Farmer’s market next?

I was in the middle of a ceramics course when COVID-19 lockdowns were implemented when working on my bachelor's degree. Now, I'm working on my master's in Art Education at George Mason University, which has a ceramics requirement. I, among many of my colleagues in the program, need the ceramics program provided by NOVA Annandale in order to gain the experience we need in order to best serve our students. We need to have a strong understanding of how to use all the equipment found in a ceramics studio, a studio that does not exist at GMU. The Masters of Art Education students rely on the resources at the NOVA Annandale campus in order to develop adequate experience for the sake of their students. Cutting the ceramics program at NOVA Annandale would be a severe detriment to future art educators as well as the surrounding community. I implore NOVA to reconsider their plans to cut the ceramics program.

The ceramics and sculpture classes and spaces at Annandale have been extremely impactful to my career path. Without these programs, I would not be where I’m at today. I am applying for my master’s at GWU for art therapy. They highly recommended looking into sculpture classes through NOVA. The studio at the Annandale campus is one of the nicest spaces I’ve worked in. Taking it away would be a shame. It would be taking opportunities away from your students. It would be a step in the wrong direction. This decision needs to be highly reconsidered.

Ceramics has been the most positive class environment in my college career. To ax the Annandale studio only makes this safe and communal course more difficult for students like myself, who cannot drive. Additionally, it's the best place for young students to interact with their older peers and forge connections between generations. Going through with this decision would be a mistake.

Why does the education leadership have such disdain for artistic spaces that also provide practical skills. My daughter has learned to welding, forging, and related skills that are practical life/job skills in this spaces while making some beautiful art. Why kill such a valuable space to make a knockoff golds gym. We have tons of fitness spaces in northern Virginia, but not enough affordable maker spaces.

Ceramics is one of the most ancient human art forms in existence. It is important and integral to our humanity. Access to ceramic art is reliant upon a community sharing resources as independent start up costs are unrealistic for a student. Please reconsider the important roll NOVA plays in maintaining access to this historic art.
