As a parent of a former student at OC this is troubling. What’s the message to students - luxury sports fields and facilities matter more than preserving a threatened species and environmental degradation.
At another level it clearly shows that the fees are so excessive as to enable the school to expand facilities that are not essential and just feed the ego of the school community to be able to be even more ostentatious. I think the values are questionable.
Enough is enough Redlands Council - when are you actually going to stop development that destroys the natural habitat - you might as well change the Redlands logo to remove the koala because we soon won’t have any left. It’s as good as having the Dodo on the council logo.
Pets are considered family members vy their owners/guardians. It's long overdue for the law to reflect this. What happened to Arnie is equivelant to the same thing happening to a infant child strapped in the back seat - in this situation - and should be handled in the same. way.
The fact current legislation doesn't reflect this is as much a farce as Arnie's death was a disgraceful act (by the thief/s in question).
Make Arnie's Law a reality. Now.
For many families, a pet is not “owned”—they are loved, depended on, and mourned when they are gone. To call them mere property is to deny the depth of the bond that shapes our homes and our hearts. Recognising animals as true family members, with rights that protect their wellbeing and dignity, honours the loyalty and unconditional love they give us every single day. They stand by us without hesitation; the least we can do is stand up for them.
Pets are more than just an animal they are part of the family and grief is real when they pass away. For a pet to die at the hands of heartless criminals who could have prevented this from happening must be devastating. The loss of the pet cannot be replaced through insurance unlike a car or other not living belongings, therefore the punishment must be inline with the severity of the crime.
It astounds me that once again a demand to move a harmless native Australian animal living in Australian bushland so someone can ride around on an introduced species for fun gets to a point where a petition is even needed?
Although horses are allowed in there is surely if a horse is so skittish an emu scares it then riding in a popular mountain biking network isn’t where you should be in the first place .
I have lived adjacent the Adelaide Golf course for 30 years, and walked among these glorious trees over 8000 times. The Adelaide Parklands are a unique treasure, keeping us cool as the climate warms. They were bequeathed to all of us, not to your Government. Major urban developments in Bowden and shortly Thebarton have (& will continue to) increased the number of residents needing green space to retreat to. Stop trading our precious natural resources to fund commercial interests. Your environmental vandalism is incredibly short sighted.
I have myself planted many trees on my very small block in kilburn. The difference it makes to the summer heat and the amount of wildlife that are in my garden at any given time is amazing. And my garden is not an established large area as are the parkland. To destroy any small part of it for the profit of a few is appalling. We are losing so much biodiversity every minute in this country. Please do not contribute further to this devastation.
Peter, I have lived in Adelaide for over 50 years. The Parklands of this city are our treasure. They are not to be frivolously altered for the sake of a strictly commercial venture. You've been a good Premier of this state, but this is a MAJOR mis-step. Please reconsider before it's too late.
