Totally agree. Too many developments are popping up in the local area. Where our rent, charges have been hiked up year on year. With there being less interest, in doing even the most basic work. Especially for the amount we are charged. An overall change needs to be implemented, across the board for renters in the borough. Along side the hiked up charges we have to pay to park, as many of us are not able to have a parking permit or use our Blue badge.
Having grown up in the area and seeing the changes when I come back to visit family I am amazed this hasn't been dealt with sooner. Houses are springing up all over Cwmbran and yet this once vital hub for the area of Fairwater and Coed-eva is left to fester...
I've worked with residents of Duffryn and know how extortionate and unfair their heating bills are! Doubly so as they're given no choice , having to pay standing charges on the ridiculous heating system when it's cheaper to run electric heaters!
I live next to a HMO house. It is not ran by the council, it is a "room share" kind of situation so not sure if its the same thing... Everyone in there is friendly and lovely there's about 6/7 in I think, they work alot as one goes out around 6am and only gets in at 10/11pm at night. Ones a teacher at my sons school... However I do not want Horwich to be over ran, or anywhere for that matter by HMO houses as this puts a risk to people and families getting houses and applying for doctors, dentists, schools and jobs. I don't mind one or 2, maybe even 3 but I don't want it to be a HMO on every block.
As another young person with a family I a in the same situation where it is so difficult to find a suitable and affordable place to live. Having this affordable home could make the difference between surviving and being able to live a happy life free of worries about money
The benefits cuts on disabled , this has already been in place and this has already caused sadness in my family, my cousin had his benefits stopped and his housing benefits , he was young with poor health , he tried to get help because he was scared he was going to become homeless , my other cousin has always been loyal to the government and was a councillor for many many years , he tried to help my poorly cousin but he could not help in this situation, my poorly cousin had medical conditions and had medical proof and tried to get his benefits back , he fought to get his payments back and tried to prove he was ill, the benefits did not believe him and two weeks later he died , with a pound in his bank.
Secure housing is a basic human right, and no one should have to live in fear of losing their home, especially in a time of financial uncertainty. The practice of evicting people just before legal protections are implemented is unfair and cruel. It highlights the need for stronger protections for tenants and a housing system that prioritizes people over profit.
I lived in St Barnabas St when I first came to work in Oxford in 1970 and the wharf was thriving: historic AND really busy. Hugely knowledgeable people worked there and were part of both the canal and the Jericho communities. It’s tragic that that it’s been effectively left to rot when it could once again contribute to its whole community and take its place in the array of qualities that bring people and livelihoods to the wider city. It must be rescued and revived.
Kernow is a separate nation from England and should be able to govern itself like the other Celtic Nations. Kernow faces many distinct and unique challenges separate from the rest of England, many of which are due to the lack of funding and support from Westminster. We have our own language, flag, food, music, dances, events etc. Kernow Bys Vyken! 〓〓
