Our community on Cleve Road, Sidcup, is at risk. As residents who take pride in our peaceful neighbourhood, we are deeply concerned about the recent approval for a House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) at the heart of our street.

This development threatens to transform our area in ways that are not beneficial to the community. HMOs, by their nature, typically bring increased noise, traffic congestion, and parking issues. Our already limited parking situation will become untenable, exacerbating tensions among neighbours who previously enjoyed a tranquil and cooperative environment.

Moreover, a high-density housing solution like an HMO is not suitable for Cleve Road. Our infrastructure is not designed for the influx of people that such developments bring. We are a family road - we should not be removing family homes in a community centred on a primary school. 

We understand the ongoing housing crisis and the need for affordable accommodation, however, such solutions should be implemented thoughtfully, respecting existing communities and preserving the character of the neighbourhoods they are proposed in. We believe that there are better-suited areas for HMOs in Sidcup that do not compromise the quality of life for current residents.

We urge the local council to reconsider this decision. Alternatives need to be explored, such as converting the proposed HMO space into quality low-density family homes that are more in keeping with Sidcup's established residential profile. Such alternatives would not only maintain but potentially enhance property values and community health.
