I’ve been a resident in the neighborhood for decades and as a mental health professional, I’ve been astonished at the inadequate, neglectful care of the residents. I’ve befriended several residents and at times they’ve been catatonic, dysregulated, discolored and have horrendous hygiene and inappropriate clothing. They need services and protection and dignity!
I am passionate about mental healthcare and disability justice. Seeing a facility like this run so dangerously is shameful for Evanston and IL. Our representatives need to step in for the safety of current and future residents.
American Addiction Centers $889,696 in Local Political Contributions, buying off Prosecutors and others in the criminal justice system. $200,000 in Lobbying. Verify this on OpenSecrets. Now, American Addiction Centers is funneling VERY LARGE Kickbacks in every county they have a stake in, to all partners in criminal justice system, absolutely in San Diego, CA. And I am inside familiar with the practice, from the very top of the chain in AAC and am open to speaking to anyone who is actually taking a stand against these folks. They are dangerous, corrupt, and act with intent in every way. They are distributing enough money for every defendant placed in their diversion programs that our local system has allowed Attempted murder and child abduction, of which I am the victim of, and I am taking a bold stand against.
It is brave of you to speak up. I signed that petition and shared your experience because I also want to make a difference I am experiencing the American Addictions Center Data Breach and it’s scary for the mistreatment in the addiction centers. We need tools, stories of hope and links to support networks. I can help with this. Would be open to partner with nonprofit or advocacy groups like Shatterproof ,Faces & Voices of Recovery or local harm reduction coalition to volunteer or share stories help with events.
Where do we go from here? I'm am still struggling from alcohol... childhood trauma, and now I'm terrified of rehabs... I'm afraid of people....I'm worse off now than before I went....
My video was taken down and I understand because of my language, I apologize, I so much do, I recently the past week have been completely traumatized in Mississippi. I am in complete shock with this past weeks recent events at the Oxford Facility. Everything I have read here is absolutely on point. I know this from hands on experience...not only with this past weeks events but also the facility in Las Vegas and Laguna.... everything makes sense now to me, I am not crazy, this is really happening, I have barely skipped through this alive. I have to be honest tho ..I feel more mixed up in my mind and I'm so afraid of people now that I can't stop shaking. I thought Las Vegas was bad.... Mississippi.... Smh.... I just made it back home yesterday and if it wasn't for my friend driving six hrs to pick me I would have disappeared forever on the streets of Tupelo. Human trafficking is real, the authorities I believe are aware of this... Civilians in these towns ..I say this because I know, I saw, I asked, I begged, I relapsed, I ran, I hid, and I prayed .... This is so surreal
This board will not recognize our homeless population as PEOPLE. I myself have been homeless, bouncing around between couches in this community and I have had (and still have) family homeless in this community. There are so few resources here that treat our homeless population with respect and dignity. Studies show that affordable housing, affordable groceries, affordable and accessible (mental and physical) healthcare, and affordable and accessible drug rehab helps bring people out of homelessness. People don’t become homeless because of drugs, they become homeless because they need mental health help and support in living on their own and that is impossible to find around here. Imagine losing your home after a mental health episode in which you received no support, lost your job, and now your community turned its back on you. I wouldn’t blame you for using substances. How many of you on the council have an alcoholic drink at the end of a hard day? It’s the same concept, different vice. You are NO different than them. Keep the damn narcan machine at the library where it is the most accessible, moving it and hiding it will only tarnish this town with more overdose deaths.
This city council wants to wash their hands of responsibility for caring for those with the most need in THEIR community. You cannot turn a blind eye to those who need you most and claim you are doing what is best for your city. Vote with more empathy, city council. We WILL vote you out if things do not change.
If the city counsel is allowing the police department to use funds to send the homeless somewhere else on a one way bus ticket, then they need to admit they are responsible to help find a solution instead of just sending people away, because not everyone has another place to go.
It would be a huge step forward—and show real commitment—if City Council chose to work alongside the hundreds of local residents already tackling these issues head-on. While many people understandably feel like nothing is changing, those of us on the ground see a different story. Recovery care in our community is becoming a movement. We see lives changing, families healing, and momentum building. We need City Council to support and strengthen these efforts, not ignore or undermine them.
As stated in the body of the petition, ignoring the unhoused population has not magically made them have houses. Unless the city council's only plan of action is to let people die until they're all gone, something significant needs to be done. The fact that the answer to a bunch of NIMBY complaints about the distribution of life-saving measures to people was met with a ban on those measures is appalling.
