Why I Started This Petition
I started this petition because I know firsthand how powerful and destructive addiction can be. I am someone who has struggled with addiction myself, and I understand the fight it takes to try to change your life.

Addiction affects more than the person struggling. It affects families, relationships, communities, and everyone who loves someone battling this disease.

I also know that recovery is possible when people have access to the right support, treatment, and resources. People need accountability, but they also need a real opportunity to heal.

I started this petition because I have watched someone I love face the possibility of losing decades of their life while needing a chance at treatment and recovery. I believe people should have opportunities to get the help they need to rebuild their lives.

This is not about excusing harmful choices. It is about recognizing that addiction requires solutions that actually work.

Treatment, recovery support, and accountability can help people change. A person’s struggles with addiction should not mean they are beyond hope.

I am asking Illinois leaders to create more opportunities for recovery and to recognize that helping people heal creates stronger families and safer communities.
