Section 504 has been a lifeline for so many people, and it’s essential that our voices are heard. Its impact reaches far and wide, touching the lives of mothers (or fathers), veterans, and individuals of all ages. It plays a crucial role in our health, education, safety, and so much more. As someone with disabilities, I carry dreams and hopes for a brighter future, and I truly want to make a positive difference. The removal of Section 504 would mean taking a step backwards for our society. It would strip away our freedoms and basic human rights—rights that every individual deserves. I ask you, not just for the sake of others, but also for your own wellbeing. Each of us will feel the consequences if this essential support is taken away, and it will inevitably impact our loved ones too. I genuinely believe that the world is capable of kindness and compassion. I implore you to consider this deeply. Please, let’s not lose what has been fought for so hard. Together, we can strive for understanding and progress. Please 🙏

My son was diagnosed with ADHD combined type three years ago. School was a daily struggle. My husband and I have advocated hard for him and finally we were able to secure a 504 educational plan for him this past October. The relief I feel knowing that he will have protections and accommodations entering middle school is unmeasurable. With his 504 plan he has THRIVED. School has become less of a place of anxiety and insecurity and more of a place of learning, growth, and understanding. My son's grades, confidence, and performance are all testaments to how much his 504 has changed his life for the better. And now his own home-state is working to pull the rug out from under him. Please, do not rip the rug out from under our kids. They're only getting started in this life. Please fight to keep section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

My son has had a 504 in place for the past 6 years to provide resources imperative to his learning with ADHD. Without them, he no doubt would have fallen behind and gotten discouraged affecting both his academics and self-esteem. The individualized plan provides more support to both the teachers and the students and would be devastating if those resources were lost.

My community needs 504 plans for a variety of reasons - social emotional, behavioral, medical. In each case their child is a positive contribution to the future adults my children will be. I have a son in an IEP, his ability to engage with his community at school has made all the difference and his peers deserve the same rights.

Without Section 504 and it's updated rules, I can't go to college or get my BA in Forensic Anthropology. Section 504 is the foundation for the ADA and as a disabled individual, it's crucial for my survival. Save Section 504 and it's updated rules.

504 plans have gotten my son through school with his MULTIPLE disabilities, without him being singled out or put in a special class away from his peers. 504 plans are NECESSARY!!$

504 plans are so important for protecting the rights of students to receive a free and appropriate education! Just because a student does not qualify for an IEP does not mean they don't need extra support. As a special education teacher and a mom of a child with autism, I beg you to protect the educational rights of our most vulnerable students!

As a teacher and a mother with a child on a 504 I understand, firsthand, the importance of 504s. A 504 opens communication between the student, family and teacher allowing all to be involved in the best decisions for the child to set up the most appropriate learning environment to be successful. The schools have a team that is trained to help with the 504 process and determining what is best for the students needs. Eliminating this would be detrimental for all and is only causing damage to our school systems.

As an occupational therapist and a person with T1D that would have required accommodations in todays day and age, I strongly believe in the need for access to 504 plans. They are imperative for so many students and ensure proper access and success. 504 plans not only support these students in school, but also in preparing them as they transition into the working world.

Before you remove 504 Plans consider that God forbid your grandchild be born with a deficit and needs the accommodations that the plan provides. Children who find themselves in need of this plan later graduate because the supports they need are present. Without the plan you have increased dropout rate. You have an increased number of students without the skills necessary to work the minimal job, like count money. As a mom of 3 children who had medical issues that required support, I am a witness that these services are needed to continue to quality education for everyone. No 2 students are the same.
