Homelessness is a pressing issue affecting communities worldwide, with millions of individuals lacking access to stable housing and basic necessities. Recent trends show an increase in homelessness rates, exacerbated by economic challenges, mental health issues, and systemic factors. Petitions on Change.org address key issues such as affordable housing, support for homeless populations, and advocacy for policy changes.
Notable petitions include one calling for increased funding for homeless shelters and services, highlighting the struggles faced by those without a home. Another petition urges local governments to implement housing-first initiatives to provide permanent solutions for individuals experiencing homelessness. By signing these petitions, you can support initiatives that address the root causes of homelessness and work towards creating a more compassionate and inclusive society. Join the movement to end homelessness and make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.
A town of our size is not equipped to support a permanent homeless encampment, especially near a park where my 5-year old daughter plays. They should follow the example of Redondo Beach and hire a few social workers to help these individuals. They need state and county services. It would also help if City Officials allowed the building of more affordable housing...
This is going to ruin ojai we need more single family housing not a homeless encampment. A homeless encampment will only exacerbate homelessness in our area. Ojai is a small town. The handouts that have been given have already made this problem worse. Throughout the past 3 years I have witnessed theft, trespassing on private property, and public urination. This encampment will only make this problem so much worse than it has already become. Our state’s leadership will need to find another solution outside of ojai.
Ojai City Council: find a better solution. Adding this shelter for the unhoused population without the support from individuals in the community (who have 30+ years of experience working with this population) is unwise. The amount of emergency calls made to this community’s temporary location have been astronomical. The supposed need of an 24hr armed guard is diabolical, and demonstrates that the City does not deem the community safe. The people of the Ojai Valley community deserve the same feeling of safety that I had growing up in downtown Ojai. This community does not have the infrastructure to support a project of this magnitude at this time. What does the city plan to do when the population at this project multiplies? City council: would you let your kids walk by this community alone on their way to the park? Remember: just because you can build this, it doesn’t mean that you should. Pause and find a better solution before you green light this project.
