The students shouldn’t have to go through fear, trauma, and anxiety all over again. It shouldn’t take another weapon to be brought into school just to get the basic safety for those at the school. This is long overdue.
As an apalachee student it's scary realization that September 4th could've happened again, I don't want to go through a traumatic event again and the board and Apalachee must take action to make me and other students feel safe at our safe pleace
My mom has been a teacher at Apalachee since its founding. AHS has been a secondary home to me for most of my life. It is deeply unnerving to fear for not only my mother’s safety, but all of the other teachers who are family to me, the students, the custodial staff, the administrators. Although the events of Sept 4th were unprecedented in Apalachee’s history, immediate safety measures should have been taken to enable the secure return of all students, teachers, staff, and administrators. It is ridiculous that, since Sept 4th very little in terms of policy and security has changed. The Barrow County School District’s negligence only serves to enable more copy cats, intent on feeding off of the infamy of Colt Gray and his horrible acts of violence on Apalachee’s campus. The Barrow County School Board is clear in its disrespect for the safety and security of all who attend and work at its schools. No matter the financial cost, safety should always be the priority. Returning students and faculty to campuses merely 2 weeks after the incident on Sept 4th was disgusting enough, especially without more strident efforts towards security. Do they expect students to return again when the risk continues? What about the teachers whose income and livelihood requires them to put themselves in danger every day? I’m deeply disturbed and disappointed in Barrow County’s lack of care for those in their schools. They must agree to strict security policies and technologies before any students, faculty, staff, or administrators return.
I am a student in the barrow county school system, a freshmen. And every day that I go to school I fear that another shooting or something will happen. There are no wear near enough safety measures in place. I would rather have to go through a metal detector and use clear book bags then get shot. None of this should have been able to happen in the first place and it’s disgusting and disappointing that our country is like this, we need change!
I am a high school teacher and very proud one of my former students decided to start this petition. Gun violence is a terrible problem that has only grown in my time as an educator. We need change, and we need it now. Gun control the makes sense and better screening process for those that want to own firearms.
He awarded my ex son in law full custody of my grandkids, the very one that pled guilty to aggravated domestic abuse against a child, the mother & her family have no contact with the children, he won't allow it, the family has nothing on them!
My sister got murdered in oct from domestic violence! If the law would have protected her she might be alive today! The law needs to stand up for anyone who is being abused.
I stand with the 1,056 supporters advocating for justice for Trevontay Jenkins. This issue matters to me because it highlights the urgent need for accountability and justice in our communities. Everyone deserves to feel safe and valued, and when injustices occur, it impacts us all. By supporting Trevontay and his family, we can push for necessary changes that benefit everyone.
Let’s unite our voices and make an impact!
There are too many black youths dying in these streets. There's no justice for black boys and girls so many of them gone and too many families missing their children in a country that doesn't care about justice or equality. I need justice for everyone in the Black community. We gotta start standing up for each other because this violence against black men, women and children will never stop unless we say something and take action. I'm a young black woman that wants to see a better and thriving future for all of my community.
