Dear Y Pant,

We're confused.

For years, the deal has been simple:

Students work hard → Students survive exams → Students go to Thorpe Park.

This year the deal seems to be:

Students work hard → Students survive exams → Students get a heartfelt "cheers" and absolutely nothing else.

Interesting.

Year 10 has spent months revising, stressing, completing coursework, sitting exams and pretending not to panic when teachers say, "Don't worry, it only gets harder in Year 11."

We've done everything that was asked of us.

The school got our attendance.

The school got our effort.

The school got our exam results.

The school got our positive feedback.

The school got a great Estyn report helped by students showing up every day, working hard and speaking positively about the school.

You got the credit.

Now give us the trip.

We're not asking for a holiday in Dubai.

We're not asking for a day off every Friday.

We're not even asking for free snacks from the canteen for life (although we'd consider it).

We're asking for the same thing Year 10 students have received for years: a chance to celebrate our hard work together.

Instead, we've apparently become the first Year 10 cohort to discover a brand-new reward scheme called:

"Congratulations! Here's nothing."

The only rides we're currently experiencing are the emotional ups and downs of being told the trip we'd looked forward to all year isn't happening.

At this point, even a rollercoaster has fewer twists than this decision.

Thorpe Park isn't just about the rides. It's about recognising students who've worked hard all year and giving us one last chance to make memories together before Year 11 arrives carrying stress, mocks, revision and approximately 47,000 past papers.

So if you believe Year 10 deserves the same opportunity as every Year 10 before us, sign this petition.

Because after everything we've done this year, the only thing that should be dropped is a rollercoaster—not the promise made to students.

Y Pant: You got the Estyn praise. We want the Thorpe Park day. Seems fair to us.
