WHO must ban the consumption and husbandry of animals that harbour deadly viruses
The Issue
It seems impossible to ignore the connection between the deadly Corona Virus outbreak at the epicentre in Wuhan China and the tradition of consumption and husbandry of animals considered as a local delicacy. To be specific the consumption of Bats which have been scientifically proven to harbour a number of deadly viruses which include the corona virus COVID-19.
Vidoes and picture of recipes which have surfaced the internet include the infamous Bat soup for example, have been met with anger and concern over the past few months. It is thought that Bats carry a number of deadly viruses which include Ebola, SARS, Rabbies, and Corona.
The chance of the process of Zoonosis which involves the spread of non-human animals to humans is thought to significantly increase when humans are in close contact with virus spreading animals. It is thought that the COVID-19 was suspected to have started in a fish market. However there is a possibility that Bats may have transferred the virus to another human or animal at the fish market.
We are now asking WHO to set legislation to ban the consumption and husbandry of animals that have the potential to carry deadly viruses.
SARS was only the beginning and we now have COVID-19. Whatever comes next will be far worse therefore we have to unite and mitigate the risks of Bats spreading these deadly viruses that have cost the lives of so many.
