Worcestershire SEND - We need an independent investigation into the failings
The Issue
Many families have been failed by the unlawful actions of Worcestershire Children First (WCF)
We are just one family that has suffered irreparable damage when they unlawfully failed to provide any of our son's therapies that he has had needed since birth and were detailed in a comprehensive EHCP agreed by another local authority before we moved to Worcestershire.
We were forced to pursue a claim against WCF in the Special Needs Tribunal and won but the stress and financial cost of £25,000 was horrendous. We cannot recoup the money spent or the lost year of therapies whilst we took legal action.
We were told that our case was "isolated" and yet since the court hearing we have found there are literally hundreds of families who have gone through or are suffering similar and sometimes worse difficulties because of the failings and unlawful actions of WCF.
Children are not receiving an education, they are not receiving the therapies they need, they are suffering distress and anxiety and family units are breaking down all because of these failings and every day WCF continues to act unlawfully when the law for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is clear.
The reason they do this is because they can, as there is no accountability for their bad practices.
Politicians are not holding the officers to account and there is no proper scrutiny. Myself and many other parents have attended and spoken at many council meetings but local politicians are not interested and refuse to take any action about the unlawfulness which occurs before their very eyes.
We therefore want my son's voice to be heard along with all the other children and young people affected and request on their behalf that there should be an independent investigation into the past and current failings at WCF so that these unlawful practices can be brought to light and those responsible be held to account.
We intend to present a petition to councillors at a full council meeting at the County Council and then on to 10 Downing Street.
