Won't you stress mass transit in new economic policy?

Moorhead, MN, United States
Created January 10, 2010

The Issue

Let's re-tool American transportation, which will save the environment and help the poor commute, as well.  The U.S. dependence on private automobiles is increasingly impractical in the face of declining oil reserves and uncertain gasoline prices.  Cars are more costly per passenger mile than trains and buses, and they foul the air with greenhouse gases and unhealthy pollutants.  We have a unique opportunity to slow global warming, stimulate the economy and fight unemployment by greatly expanding mass transportation within and between our cities.  I urge Congress and the new administration to develop and implement a plan to revolutionize public transportation in our country, now.
