Forms of child marriage are still legal in the state of Wisconsin. According to the current law, children 16-17 can get married to any 16 and older, including adults, under certain circumstances. Data shows that nationwide, approximately 248,000 children were married from 2000-2010. The practice has continued, and the majority of these marriages involve minor girls marrying adult men. These children are more likely to suffer from domestic abuse, mental illness, and live in poverty. New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota have already ended all forms of child marriage.
