The Wisconsin State Senate is the upper chamber of the Wisconsin State Legislature, which along with the Wisconsin State Assembly, the lower house, comprises the legislative branch of the state of Wisconsin. The Senate is composed of 33 members who are elected by citizens from districts across the state, serving four-year, staggered terms. As per the state's constitution, the Senate is responsible for drafting and voting on laws and legislation, bringing local issues to the state level, as well as overseeing the execution of the law through its legislative committees. The Senate is also responsible for confirming or rejecting gubernatorial appointments and serves as a check and balance on the governor’s office and other branches of government.
