Every day, 33 Americans are murdered with guns. And these tragedies will continue with no end until we take action to protect our children and families.

Right now in Wisconsin we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to lead.

State legislators have introduced a bill that would require background checks for ALL gun sales in Wisconsin – one of the most effective steps we can take to save lives. 

Right now, felons, domestic abusers, and other prohibited purchasers can choose to either buy a gun at a federally licensed-dealer and fail a background check, or go online or to a gun show and buy a gun from a so-called “private seller” where no background checks are required. In 2012, an estimated 6.6 million guns were sold without background checks.

Polls show that between 80% and 90% of people in Wisconsin – including the vast majority of gun owners – want criminal background checks for every gun sale, every time. 

There’s no reason for Wisconsin to wait. New York, Colorado, and Connecticut have all passed state measures to require universal background checks.

Now is the time to secure protections that will make Wisconsin safer. Join with people all across the state in demanding our lawmakers pass AB138/SB124 and require criminal background checks for ALL gun sales in Wisconsin.
