If you were chartering a long, tall vehicle built within the past 10 years, with seating for around 50 people and convenient storage bays under the passenger cabin, what would you call it?

  • A "Motorcoach"
  • A bus

Some people might say "coach". Most people would say "bus". No one, in 2017, would genuinely use the word "Motorcoach". That's because there are no longer any coaches that don't have motors.

So why does Williams College?

Fact: Google Translate cannot translate the word "Motorcoach" into Arabic, but it can translate the word bus. I didn't try any other languages but I would guess the same could be said of some of them.

Fact: Many languages word for bus sounds like "bus". I believe that we should try to use universally accepted and standard vocabulary where possible.

Williams, we call on you to update the outdated word you use to describe buses.
