Get in person lessons and classes back at WLU!
The Issue
This petition aims to motivate Wilfrid Laurier University to return in-person studio lessons and possibly other classes as well. Many of Laurier's music students are struggling academically, mentally, and socially because of the university's response to COVID-19. Our grades are lower, our motivation is down, and there is nothing for us to work towards because the university has not given us a plan for the future. The music students deserve to be given a time frame and a promise of returning to in-person lessons and classes. Right now, there is no promise of resuming in-person lessons anytime soon. Western and UofT, two Ontario universities with excellent music programs, are already offering in person lessons to those who are comfortable with them. Western is even offering in person ensemble. What is going to stop people from transferring to one of those schools? Why would an incoming first year even consider Laurier over a school offering in-person lessons and classes? Laurier is known for its student satisfaction ratings. This year, Laurier was not given first place in "best student satisfaction" in the Maclean Best University ratings, as they have been awarded in previous years. Laurier's student satisfaction ratings will continue to drop if they do not listen to their students. Let's make a stand and allow Laurier to hear their music students' voices! Please sign this petition to allow Laurier to hear YOUR voice in support of resuming in-person lessons and classes.
